Vertical incision

My MD said that because my fibroid is so large (18cm), and so high up (past my belly button), that I will have to have a vertical incision. Can anyone tell me what the difference in recovery time is between that and a bikini cut. I had 2 C-sections with a low horizontal cut, but now he want to cut from the belly button down. Thanks so much. This is a wonderful site and reading all of the different threads, makes me know what to expect. My expected surgery is March 5 (only a week away!) I'm nervous!

Vertical incision

Hi

I think the recovery from a vertical incision is the same as from any other kind of incision. At least the instruction sheet I got from the hospital gave the same kinds of restrictions for every kind of procedure. I've heard that the women who have vaginal hysterectomies heal faster, but the important healing is what goes on inside, and that's the same for everybody.

Yes, of course you're nervous, but don't put too much energy into it. It's really not worth it. You'll be surprised at how much easier it is than you imagine. I'm pretty sure of that.

Vertical incision

My opinion is that it would be the same. I think it's because of all about what happens internally that takes so long to recover. So many stitches and lots of work. Whether it's horizontal or vertical shouldn't make a difference other than how your waistband lays and feels on your tummy.

Vertical incision

My SAH is on Wednesday and my gyn. isn't sure which incision she'll have to make. She has to be able to get a good look at my ovary to rule out ovarian cancer. She said that the recovery is the same for either cut- the bikini cut leaves a less visible scar. Since I'm long past wearing a bikini, it doesn't make a bit of difference to me! Good luck with your surgery and recovery...
