Numby Belly

Hi Ladies!
I was wondering how long the numbness last around your belly and incision. I find it as annoying as the swelly belly! I cannot stand to touch or itch the area, it gives me the chills just thinking about it. Are there many ladies who have this?
Hugs
Michelle

Michelle -
I don't know how long it will last this time, I am 7 weeks out and still numb, but I can say that - I had a C-section 14 years ago, and I still had a spot on my right side of my incision that was numb the day I went in for my TAH -
I imagine the feeling in that spot will never come back, probably damaged the nerves.

I hate the feeling too, don't like to touch it, it feels like I have been to the dentist only he numbed the wrong spots!!!

Good luck I think mostly the feeling does return!

((Michelle))

It was 16 months before all my numbness had disappeared. It just went away very slowly over this time. It obviously can take a long time for some of those nerves to regenerate.

Numby Belly

I'm at 30 days post-op and most of the numbness is gone. I have been treating the scar from the the time I got out of recovery. First by just resting my hands on the incision and then slowly moving up to massaging the lower ab and incision area below belly button. Just light circle motions with the finger tips to start. If it hurts your pushing to hard. Only have one spot that still feels frozen but it is on a big stretch mark.

I have numbness above my incision (bikini cut) and below my belly button. At my 6 week check up I asked my doctor about it and he said they have to cut nerves to get in there (they do not cut muscle they spread them apart) and the numbness is from the nerves trying to find there way back together again and it could take up to 2 years. I know is feels really weird when you have an itch but you can't feel yourself scratching it. And then there's that weird burning sensation you get when you brush against something. After much thought about whether I was going to let it drive me crazy I decided it's much better to have a numb tummy than bleed nonstop for months on end.

Numby Belly

I'm 5 months out and just now noticing the numbness starting to go away. It was so bad for the first 2-3 months. It felt so weird! I thought maybe it was from a lot of marcaine which was injected during surgery but doc said it was the nerves. I had a laparoscopy which was converted to hysterectomy with Pfannenstiel incision (bikini cut) so I had two separate surgical sites.

I was wondering about how long the "bruised" sort of feeling takes to go away. I still feel bruised in that area to touch and I'm still very protective. I freak out when my cat jumps on my stomach or something and don't like my husband touching my belly either.

Hi Michelle,
My doctor said that the numbness will probably go away, but there is usually some residual numbness that may not, especially immediatley around the scar. I remember right on my c-section scar, the numbness never went away, but it wasn't the kind of numbness we're having now - not annoying relly, hardly noticed it at all.

Hope you're doing ok, lots of hugs,
Lisa

I'm 3 months out and due to severe nerve pain, was advised to take (vitamin) B-200 once a day; it's supposed to work on nerve repair. I could only find B-100 and take one in the morning and one at night. You can't really overdue--as you will see--the excess is excreted.

Just reading your notes, I've realized that my own belly numbness is going away pretty fast! Maybe the B vitamins are helping the little nerves too? I had assumed it would take a lot longer. Anyway, if this idea can help anyone, I offer it with a huge helping of good luck to everyone.

I'm almost 8 weeks out and I noticed the numbness around and just below my incision starting to go away this past week but it has been replaced by a lot of burning and pulling. I think I liked it better when I was numb!

I also am getting over a urinary tract infection. My DH and I are back to normal with our sex life and I think that we might have over done it last week hence the uti and my vagina feels a little raw still. Just when I thought that I was finally better. Oh well, I hope that this next week things clear up. Elaine
