Having vaginal hysterectomy (keeping ovaries) and overwhelmed.

I am 57 and definitely having second thoughts about following through. Have avoided the surgery for 8 yrs, finally made the decision and finally got the call to book the date. I cycle, golf, ski and swim. Can anyone in a similar position tell me about how long it took to get back to these sports.

Many thanks.

Hi and welcome. I personally am very glad to have had the surgery. I decided quickly to have it it was all said and done within 1 month. I was just tired of the bleeding and pain discomfort and all that goes with it. I listened to my doctor and my kids waited on me like I could have never imagined but I still had complication. Your recovery will be just that, yours. Stay on the site and it will help guide you through the recovery and add support for those blah days, Good luck!!!

Re: Having vaginal hysterectomy (keeping ovaries) and overwhelmed.

123grand,

First, everyone is different. That said I was 55 when I couldn't put it off any longer..at least 8 years for me too. Crazy bleeding due to fibroids and adeno. I had a LSH and was playing golf again in three weeks. I had an excellent surgeon,
kept my cervix and was lucky! Keeping your cervix can speed recovery--no vaginal cuff to heal.

After reading about lots of recoveries I've come to the conclusion that every recovery is different. Plan for at least 4 to 6 weeks and take your time easing back into things. Being fit helps--I wasn't very fit but I was active and worked out regularly.

I was ready to run a
way but I didn't and I'm much better off now!

We're all different and I'm 20 years younger.

I was back to riding 50 mile races in 12 weeks.
