hours after Robotic Hysterectomy.. surprised

I had my surgery today. It was moved up 2 hrs.. Lol. So I was late (didn't get the message)
Packed in flash. 1. Phone + charger
2. Chap stick 3. cough drops ( a must) 4. Pads (I wear thongs, which seems to be just fine with tose type of pads too) 5. Gas X and as of right now, its all I needed. (My husband did bring me a soft blanky from home, simple comfort)
I wore the clothes in that I'm wearing home too.
I was a nervous wreck, my temperature was elevated, but went down by the next try (that scared me Lol)
Dr. came in, told me what was going on.. She took everything except 1 ovary . They gave me something to calm me, and then to the room we went. Basically they put a mask on, and next thing I knew, I was waking up.
All done. I was surprised. I'm not gonna sugar coat it though, I was in a lot of pain. Took a bit to get that under control.
Now I'm lying in bed, had to pee almost immediately.
And the gas pain is up under my ribs and both shoulders. Very uncomfortable also. But, I am pretty shocked how well I feel. How well the procedure went.
I know its been only a few hours.. But I made it.. And it wasn't as bad as I had thought it would be.

Hi tigtab23, welcome to the other side! I'm glad to hear you're doing so well! Your experience echoes mine; for me it seemed like one minute I was on the operating table with an oxygen mask on my face, and the next minute, I was waking up in recovery. The shoulder and rib pain is very familiar to me! It's from the gas that's used to expand the abdomen for laparoscopic procedures; basically what's left over migrates up into that area, where it presses on the nerves running to the shoulders. In my experience, the best cures for that are time, peppermint tea, and regular walking. And don't forget to take your pain medications on schedule, because it's really important to keep on top of the pain. Best wishes for your recovery!

Re: hours after Robotic Hysterectomy.. surprised

Congrats. I impressed the nurses at how easily and quickly I was able to get up and walk and use the bathroom right after surgery. My LAVH was done same day surgery. Make sure you stay AHEAD of the pain. After the surgeries anesthesia and pain meds wore off it hits you that you had major surgery and you need to relax. Make sure you get up and walk around for a few minutes each hour and to get fluids in. good luck!
