The beginning of my story
Hi, I'm new here. Since about the age of 12, I have had horrendous periods with lots of cramps. I have tried many options over the years. After my c/section giving birth to twins and a tubal ligation, my problems excelerated to a huge new level. Bleeding became an even bigger issue, so last year I had a MEA. I would still say it was a success because my bleeding is very minimal. But the cramps have not gone away at all. Last month, I ended up in the ER for pain management. Sometimes I feel like turning 40 has made me fall all apart.
I have gone back and once again my dr has offered me a hysterectomy. I'm leaning toward having my right ovary removed because my cramps are very right sided and the dr said that it seems to be a good chance of an ovary issue. I have been told for years that I probably have endo and now I think it is around the right side ovary. He is offering a laproscopical surgery but of course we don't know if that will be the case until he gets in there.
My question for those with experience would be is how many have had success avoiding HRT by leaving one ovary in?

The beginning of my story
I had one ovary removed when I was about 36. I never had HRT. I will admit that I think I started having hot flashes in my 40s, but nothing that was as bad as what other women have experienced. Also, I've been battling the bulge for most of my life and "they" say that fat cells produce estrogen, so that may have helped my transition.

The beginning of my story
I had one ovary & tube removed in 2001. Admittedly, I seem to be having some peri-menopausal issues especially this past year but I'm planning to hang on to my one ovary = having TAH in November. Dr. says I should not need HRT even at that point so we'll see.
I concur with stjoan that my fat cells may also be producing estrogen that I'm not aware of.
