Surgery Sept 30, 2010

I have surgery on Sept 30, 2010. I just don't know what to think. I worry about the pain, and how bad it will be.
I also worry about how long it will take to get back to eveyday life. I just hope it wont be as bad, as I am making myself think it will be..

Re: Surgery Sept 30, 2010

Hi mary!

I can sure understand all those pre-surgery worries and concerns! It is so difficult to stay completely positive and calm! One of the things I tried to do before my surgery was break it down into the things that were in my control, things I still had questions about, and things that were completely OUT of my control. And then I tried to focus on getting any remaining questions answered, and taking care of the things that WERE in my control. And I was mostly too busy with those things to worry about the rest....I say MOSTLY because of course I still worried. And all those things I worried about, fortunately, never came to pass and I have been blessed with a relatively smooth recovery.

If you still have questions, don't hesitate to contact your doctor. Your concerns about pain and length of recovery are difficult to answer because everyone is so different, but your doctor is most familiar with your specific surgery and condition, and can be the most helpful in terms of helping to manage your pain and setting you up for the best possible recovery.

AND, in addition to that, we are here for you! You'll find lots of resources on this website, and many ladies here to support you! Wishing you the very best in your upoming surgery and recovery, please keep us posted!

Re: Surgery Sept 30, 2010

I feel exactly the same with the same concerns as yourself and my surgery for a TVH and repairs is Oct. 1, this Friday. Im sure we will be ok! My emotions seem to be all over the place as of today though. I seem to be overreacting to everything going on in the household. I'm feeling a bit overly sensitive I think. So many changes about to take place and we have no control over them. I hate the thought of being out of action the most as Im not very good at letting other family members run things...I always think that they cant do it as well as I can type of thing! I will be thinking of you come Thursday. Take care.

Re: Surgery Sept 30, 2010

Mary 0466 I am right there with ya sister. I am having my LAVH on the 29th. Yes 2 days from now. I am feeling everything you are.
Fire I hear everything you are saying. I keep trying to tell myself that once the IV is in the rest is easy because of the drugs they will be giving me. Also just trying to remeber the outcome of not being in pain anymore due to my 18 week uterus and 2 9cm &8cm fibroids.

Mary I will send positive thoughts your way and hope they help you stay calm and positive. Good luck

Re: Surgery Sept 30, 2010

The pre op nerves are the worst part of it all. Try to relax and follow Fire's great advice. I had two earlier surgeries this year and knew going in more of what to expect, but still had nerves about the unknowns. My GYN answered all my questions, many before I asked them. Recovery has sped past compared to the waiting for the surgery.
Best wishes.
