Oh my Lord!!!

4 days!! I think I can!! I am soooo excited!! But I am also sooooo nervous, and scared. I have been reading all the post on here and I have to say that I have been second guessing my decision. I do not bleed heavy, I have not tried anything else, bcp, or other medicines or technics. I have 1 fibroid. My uterus is tilted, pushing against my rectum. My doctor thinks I have endo. I have a lot of pain and pressure. That's all. It's bearable. I am just soooooo tired of it all the time. The last internal exam I had I about came off the table. It hurt so bad and so much pressure. My husband had a vasectomy 13 years ago. I have kidney problems and they said no more babies. I have 2 kids. Both horrible pregnancies. I guess I feel bad that here I am getting a hysterectomy and compared to everyone else it seems not that bad.

Re: Oh my Lord!!!

Hi Rena4,

It is fairly common to get pre-op jitters and second guess your decision. Some women find it helpful to get a second opinion or consultation before having a surgery that can't be undone. We on HysterSisters highly recommend second opinions. You say it's not that bad, but the issues you listed sound fairly bad to me. You don't have to compare your situation to others' situations. If you and your doc(s) believe you would be healthier after surgery that's what matters. There are some sisters that were almost asymptomatic, but their conditions required a hysterectomy. Make the right decision for YOU. I'm sending and good thoughts.

Re: Oh my Lord!!!

Hello,

Just another angle to think about...

Like you I really second-guessed my decision. I reckoned that my symptoms weren't *that* bad...not like the serious conditions that some women on here have.

11 weeks out of my TAH I now realise that the symptoms I had learned to put up with were really taking much more from my life than I accounted for. You know that analogy: If you put a frog in boiling water he will jump straight out. If you put a from in cold water and heat it up gently to boiling he won't jump. Well, I found that it was easy to 'put up with' my pain symptoms as they gradually increased and impacted on my life. I worked around them, without realising how much better my life would be without them. Right now I have no pain, better sex life, energy like I never had before, no niggling abdominal odd pains. Wow! This is what I had been missing out on! It was a case of not knowing what I didn't know (if that makes sense).

A second opinion is really helpful to put your mind at rest that you are making the best decision. A hysterectomy is a big step and takes some work to recover from. In my case, I have no regrets though.

Best wishes x

Re: Oh my Lord!!!

I can totally relate to you. My surgery is scheduled for next Friday. I am so nervous and scared its not even funny. I think I am more worried and scared about the pain afterwards and the recovery. I have to take quite a bit of time off work for this surgery and since I am considered only "part-time" at my work (They intentionally schedule me 1 hour short of full time each week...ugh!), I am taking time off unpaid. This has me freaking out a bit too. My husband is trying to be supportive but he is also freaking out about the cost of the surgery, the recovery time and my loss of pay. I have so many things that I need to and have to do this summer and I am just so worried that I won't be able to do them. I have two teenage sons, so I am not at a loss about not being able to have anymore children. I had uterine ablation in December 2011 and that did not work. I am still having terrible issues with a tipped uterus, heavy super painful periods, constant infection and an enlarged uterus. My dr. wanted me to have the hysterectomy a year ago but I put it off and now he tells me it is necessary.

Re: Oh my Lord!!!

Thank you all for the encouragement. I have had 3 different doctors tell me the same thing. The pain is most likely endo. I am scared, but I know Jesus has me in His hands and He has this under control. I guess I should just be thankful that my situation has not progressed to heavy bleeding. I pray that all goes well for all of you! I so much appreciate this site. It has been a huge blessing to me as I go through this! Hugs and Blessings,
Rena

Re: Oh my Lord!!!

Rena,
I will say a prayer for your surgery. I try to have the same attitude that I KNOW everything is going to be OK because God has this in his control. I often struggle with not being a worry-er. I know that we are not supposed to worry. Keep us updated and let us know how everything goes!

MANY HUGS!

Re: Oh my Lord!!!

Dear Rena and other posters here: {{{{{GROUP HUG}}}}}
I too have been second guessing my decision. I have had abnormal paps for the past 10 years. BUT IT'S NOT CANCER, Thank GOD.
My sister is an OB/GYN. She has been pushing me for the past 6 years to get the hysterectomy already.
When my every 6 month pap came back ever so slightly more abnormal in March, my husband, who is a Physician Assistant, said: "You know, I think now's the time". My own doctor said anytime you're ready we'll to a laparoscopic hysterectomy. Something happened in March that made me realize, hey, if I do the TLH now, I can avoid a radical hysterectomy for actual cancer down the road. Suddenly it all made sense.
But then I read here of all these sisters with terrible years long pain and bleeding and horrible lifestyle issues and I thought again, "Am I giving in too soon?"
But my rational brain says "You dummy!! TLH versus what they do to you in a radical hyst (I've seen one <shudder>) is a no brainer.
I have heard form our experienced sisters and moderators that our decisions are personal and valid for each of us.
So for me, even though I have no symptoms thank goodness, the choice to go ahead now makes sense for me.
Just as your choices make sense for you.
Prayers to everyone, and I as the Jewish kid ask for prayers in return. prayer is what's helping me the last few weeks/days as the date comes closer. Prayers and Hyster Sisters.
