Incision with TVH?

Hello,
I couldn't find this info anywhere in the material my doc gave me, do they do any type of incision with a vaginal hyst? I guess I assumed that it there were no external incisions, but do they do one similar to an episiotomy?

incisions

I had a vaginal hysterectomy, but my DR also used laproscopy. So, I had 4 small incisions; in my belly button, center just above pubic hairline, and one on each side probably about where ovaries are located. My DR then put about 3 or 4 stitches at each incision and covered it with a see-thru round bandage (same as steristrip?). At my 2 week appt., he removed the bandages and stitches.

There may be a kind of hyst. with no belly incisions, but I'm not aware of any. Hopefully someone will post here for you soon.

Good luck!

Incision with TVH?

Thanks for the reply. My doc didn't mention lap assisted vag - so I assume mine will be 100% vaginal only. Just wasn't sure if there were any incisions in the vaginal area.

incision

Yes, there will be an incision to close off the top of your vagina and this will be called the vaginal cuff. They may leave your cervix or take it, either way it is still the vaginal cuff. They use self dissovling sutures which fall out once you are healing at about 3 weeks and you will have a little discharge from that. They will also take the ligaments that held the uterus in place and attach those elsewhere to help hold the vagina up in place so it doesn't "sag" down.

It is for all of this internal reconstruction that you have all the restrictions in moving etc. It takes a while for these to heal and you may feel like you can do things but need to hold off until your doctor gives the go ahead so these things have a chance to heal properly. These things are what keep a vaginal aproach and an abdominal approach with the same precautions. Not whether or not you have a tummy incision.

Incision with TVH?

Hi Traci,

Just to clarify when an episiotomy-like incision might be necessary - I did have the episiotomy-like incision that you were asking about, but only because I also had repairs done for a rectocele and a cystocele (A & P repairs).

If you are not having any repair work done, then you shouldn't have that type of incision.

Be sure to follow StampinCat's advice about following all your doctor's restrictions. Be sure to Pamper the .

Incision with TVH?

Yes ma'am! 500mg a day so far. I'm border-line diabetic with my A1c on the rise. However, with my recent confirmed PCOS diagnosis, I need to call my endo and see if he wants me to up the Glucophage at all.

Thanks Karen. Hopefully no incision will be necessary then!

With vaginal hyst the cervix is removed. Possibly with a lap assisted it can be left, but in general if you have a vag hyst there is no way to keep it.
