Re: Pre-Op today!

I don't seem to be having a pre-op so wonder the same thing; what's it for? and what did they do in it?

I can understand the being excited and nervous at the same time; hope it all goes smoothly and well

Re: What All Do They Do At Pre-Op?

I go for my pre op tommarow. But in June I had a lapo and had pre op then. We went over questions, the procedure, how and what, concerns and then I had to get blood work done to make sure of course everything was good to go on that end. I also signed papers saying i consented to the surgery. Hope that helps some what.

Re: What All Do They Do At Pre-Op?

They didn't do much at mine and I actually had it with my primary doctor because my surgeon is 2 hours away. I think they did a blood test and checked for UTI and that was it.

Re: What All Do They Do At Pre-Op?

For my pre-op, I had blood drawn for baseline labs (and to make sure I was healthy enough for surgery) and also submitted a urine specimen. Then I saw my primary care provider who did a physical assessment and verified my medical history and current complaints. That was it! Some doctors also require chest x-rays and EKG's prior to surgery, depending on your age and previous medical history. Oh, I also had to sign the novel's worth of consents at my pre-op. It was no big deal.

Re: What All Do They Do At Pre-Op?

5 surgeries in 3 years. Pre-op day..go to Dr's, she goes over the procedure and asks you if you have any question. BP, etc. This time I have a TON of pre-op questions. I feel more prepared for this surgery than any of the others due to this site.

Next, i run over to the hospital and do my pre-op admission there. They do a swab up your nose..YUCK..for MRSA, and you fill out all your paperwork and they give you instructions for surgery day. When to report in, what to bring, instructions for food the night before, what you can eat within 24 hrs, when to stop eating, etc.

It's all pretty easy.

I am like you I have a ton of questions for my pre-op
Already had the blood tests and EKG and have to register pre-op for the Hospital over the phone
I figure this is the last time I will have his undivided attention while I am coherent until my post op. Not sure but many times Docs have nurses do discharge. so I have some post op questions as well. Would love to know what some of yours are.

Re: What All Do They Do At Pre-Op?

I think right now the biggest thing on my mind is can I telework at home after the second week, can I travel in 4 weeks and questions about the ab binder.

Whem I go in for my preop on the 5th the big question I have, if she says the ovaries have to go is...will I go back into menopause. I finished up all the hot flashes, night sweats, and stuff about a year ago. I'm hoping that doesn't come back. Also, HRT questions.

I did a combo patch for a few weeks last year and it brought back all those crazy PMS days. So I really don't want to go back to that after finally gaining my sanity. Wouldn't want to subject my family to THAT crazy lady again!

Re: What All Do They Do At Pre-Op?

Looks like all preops are different. I talked with the nurse, my dr, did another exam went to the hospital checked in, spoke with surgery nurse, anesthesiaologist, blood work and was done. long day took me for 1030 - 3pm but when I walk in in the morning all I have to do is check in and get my arm bracelet. I would have liked to have had another ultrasound. But hopefully he will take pix
