Naive and have questions about end....
Hi everyone let me give you a little bit of background and then what I am thinking.
I was raised by a catholic mother who didin't believe in 'having the talk' In fact I found out from my friends that you didn't get pregnant by kissing boys. Anyways, the point is talking about female issues has not been normal in my life an hence I am not well informed.
I have however, been seening my GP for back pain, heavy bleeding, cramping etc. I got to the point where my pelvic area is in constant pain, I have incontenence. I can't reach my feet because I have no flexibility etc. Well this has been going on progressively for more than 10 years.
This last summer they found large fibroids and because I am past my child rearing days, have scheduled a TAH. My doctor has never discussed the possiblity of endometriosis. My question is for those who have it...does this sound like what you are experiencing?
If so, is the hysterectomy supposed to alleaviate the condition? What might I need to ask the surgeon?
What should I be thinking about?
Or if I do have endo, and they are doing a TAH, not to worry, because they will find it and deal with in during the TAH?
Any thoughts, or knowledge is appreciated.

Naive and have questions about end....
Hi!
I had/have endo. I wasn't diagnosed until 2 years ago, after complaining about severe periods, pelvic pain, and lower back pain to numerous Dr.'s. I finally found the "right" Dr. She did an ultrasound and said it was endo.
Needless to say I tried different prescriptions to try and help. They didn't work out and in Nov. I saw a Gyn Dr. and she said my next step was hysterectomy. (LAVH- Dec 6,2005)
From the pathology report and her observation I had severe endo.
Hysterectomy is not a cure for endo. I am pain free and feel like a new person. For me, hysterectomy was the best decision.
My Dr. did do "clean up" on my left ovary during surgery. As far as I know if your Dr. sees any endo he/she will take care of it as best they can during surgery.
I too was raised Catholic and I know all to well of not having "the talk". I am the oldest daughter and I was on my own when it came to that. Thank goodnes for my younger sister I was there to help and answer any of her questions.
Hope this helps a little. Be sure to make a list of questions for your Dr. for your next appt.
All the Best,
Laurie

Naive and have questions about end....
I would talk to your doc about endo concerns. Mine never brought it up until I mentioned it, and that was after having what docs thought was a hernia, turned out to be endo adhesions in my ab muscles. I go to a teaching hospital, and think sometimes they think someone else has already told me something, when they haven't.
If in fact you have endo, unless they remove your ovaries too, the endo can keep growing, ergo... the doc is removing it all for me. I am okay with it, and just want to be rid of it. When it is inflamed it hurts to move in any direction, theres constant pulling like I'm stuck together inside. I have had back pain forever, and no one has ever been able to figure out why. At 19 I was put on massive doses of amitryptaline(SP?) that made me incoherrent for weeks because my mother told the doc she thought my problems were from depression, and that I really wasn't in pain!!!! I'm pretty much convinced that because the pain always coinsided with periods that I have had endo since starting my period. My mom had eight kids and never had problems so therefore it must be in my head!! Shes passed now, but would be freaking out at my upcoming surgery if she were here. My oldest sister is of the same mold when it comes to this stuff, and is a wreck about my surgery. Her friends have had it done, but they had problems lol.
I spoke with my doc about some incontinence issue this week. I told her I have leakage whenever I cough or sneeze, and sometimes when I pass gas, (sorry, TMI)She said she had noted it from previous visits, and that the onocologist that will be on hand is aware of it in case they have to do repairs. I was relieved, did not want to go back for more surgery for any reason.
Please make a list of questions, and if you are not comfortable asking out loud, hand it to your doc and she can give you the info while shes reading it. Mine has suggested this, and said the docs are happy to do it because they want you to be informed about all your concerns even if nothing comes of it.
Hope you find answers soon,
Donna
