TAH - Hot flash ??

I had a TAH (both ovaries removed), on March 31st. Just recently I've had a couple of hot flashes. They really weren't all that bad. I've talked to a lot of women and many have said their's were unbearable.

Since these ol' hot flashes are new to me I was wondering if someone could tell me how bad is a bad one? As I stated...so far mine haven't been bad at all. What might I expect in the future? Or...are the ones I've already had indicative of what to expect in the future?

Thanks,
Julee

Re: TAH - Hot flash ??

I had a TAH 16 days ago and I started having hot flashes in the hospital 2 days after. The night I came home I had the bed sweats so bad I may as well have had a shower and gotten into bed without drying off. The hotflashes were constant, on and off all day and night. The only way I can explain the hotflashes is it feels like I'm boiling from the inside out. It doesn't seem that I can get cooled off fast enough. My emotions have also been all over the place. I have now been using an estergen gel now for 11 days and find it does help but by the end of the day I'm back to having hotflashes. I wish you luck and hope that you don't have to suffer the way I do. I knew that having my overies taken was going to put me into instant menapause but I wasn't prepaired for it to be this bad. Everyone is different and you may get lucky and never experience a really unbearable hotflash. I hope this helps answer your question. Best of luck to you!

Thanks so much for sharing. I hope things calm down for you. I'm knocking on wood that this is the worst that it gets for me.

Take care,

Re: TAH - Hot flash ??

I had my TAH/BSO on the same day as shordass (not too far from each other either) and I started having hot flashes the night of my surgery. They weren't that bad that night but through the next couple of days I really noticed them getting worse and worse. I started on an estrogel shortly after (gel you rub into your skin) and since using that I've had no more hot flashes or any menopause symptons.

Re: TAH - Hot flash ??

Skeeter10 don't want to get too personal but I have a feeling that we were in the same hospital together maybe even had the same doctor. I was in Markham/Stouffville and seeing where you are from I have to assume you were in the same hospital. Reeding some of your posts I get the feeling you are healing quickly and I must say I'm jealous of all the support you have had. Don't get me wrong I have had support but we have our own business and its the busiest time of year for my hubby so he works very long hours. Glad to know that someone lives fairly close to me and is going through the same recovery process as I am. Thanks for your posts they have been a great help and happy healing!

Re: TAH - Hot flash ??

I thought I was right and yes same doctor! Great doctor don't you think? I put it together when I saw your op date and where you are from. I just didn't have the nerve to ask at first. Don't go back to see the doc until 23 of June. Quick question did Dr. H mention how long you should wait until you can drive again. I don't think I'm quite ready yet but getting closer. I need to get out on my own soon b4 I go nuts! Take care!

Re: TAH - Hot flash ??

He said once I was off the pain pills and when I was moving quicker (reflexes back) I could drive. I drove yesterday but it was too soon for me I just felt the need to drive my jeep. oh and yes he's a great doctor. I had a bladder infection so went back early.
