Hysteroscopy / D & C

Is it possible for your doctor to see indications of cancer in your uterus while doing a hysteroscopy and d & c? On the other hand, would they be able to determine if there were no signs of cancer? About how long does it take to get results after the tissue is sent to the pathologist?

Re: Hysteroscopy / D & C

Mine was back pretty quickly, a few days at the most. I know the waiting is miserable, but hopefully you will hear back soon. Best wishes!

Re: Hysteroscopy / D & C

It's unlikely for the doctor to see signs of cancer during a hysteroscopy, usually they need to wait for pathology results from the D&C. That's how my cancer was diagnosed & I had both procedures done. It took a month to get my results, but the waits are longer up here in Canada. From what I've seen, most Americans get theirs within 1-2 weeks. Waiting is sheer torture. Here's hoping for quick results & good news! ((((( HUGS )))))

Re: Hysteroscopy / D & C

Thank you for your answers! I just wondered if anyones doctor started the procedures, saw cancer, and just stopped and rescheduled for a hysterectomy. Is it true that if the biopsy shows any abnormality, but they can't confirm cancer they remove the uterus anyway? I hear so many conflicting stories. Did your doctor also suggest you have a colonoscopy? I saw the gastroenterologist I was referred to, and he agreed that we wouldn't do anything until the biopsies came back. I'm not due for another colonoscopy for 3 years. I'm past menopause and this is the first time I've ever had polyp/fibroids in my uterus.
