hello from the other side!

I am 9 days post op and have been posting a bit in my post op thread. However I thought I would pop back over here to offer some support from the other side. When I was pre-op reading through the post op recovery threads was a bit scary. So no scariness here.

I was on the surgery waitlist for 6 months. That waiting is the worst. A few days before I would get bouts of anxiety. The night before I had a bit of a panic attack. Let's get this over with already. I dreaded my walk into the hospital. I was surpised the anxiety didn't raise my blood pressure, but as it got closer it got easier.

I had a TLH, which ended up also being a bit vag. as well. I went under telling them about Jamaica and woke up 3 hours later and it was all done. I have 4 little incisions. I recovered well with no nausea at all. I was even up walking a bit later in the day, and then often at the hospital. I was on Voltaren, but had no pain at first, and then just a bit of gas pain in my lower back and shoulders. The nurses all said I was doing so well!

I'm at home, pain free and mobile. Some minor bladder and bowel issues are my only concerns. Tip - even if you feel good and hungry, go easy on your bowels with a light diet afterwards! I get a bit tired, but it is nice having the day to myself to read and surf the internet between naps. Not only that, but I feel generally better already. I've lost 7 pounds. I know I need to recover but now I feel happy that I'll be able to get fit again. Mentally I feel amazing. Like a new me!

Anyway, I just wanted to offer hugs of encouragement to the pre-op ladies and let you know that it's not always all so bad! It IS possible to get through this relatively easy! I hope it is that way for you! Take lots of deep breaths and be strong.

All the best to you!

Re: hello from the other side!

Thank you for the kind words of encouragement! I'm going in on Monday for a TLH BSO. I'm very calm about it. I go in on Sunday for my bloodwork and tests at the hospital, and I need to re-read all my information so I know what time to start everything for my bowel prep. I'm actually getting more excited to get it taken care of and being pain free. Every period I get just reinforces my need to have this done. And, It's great to hear about such a positive recovery. So, thank you again for the positive words!!!

Re: hello from the other side!

I have heard that from every woman I know who has had a hysterectomy. It is so great to hear all the positive stories. Women are the absolute best. I am so grateful for all the sharing, the stories, the words of encouragement. I am so blessed and thankful that I was referred to this website. It is so comforting to know that there are so many women out there just like me who are experiencing the "same" (or similar) experiences that I am.

I hope you continue to recovery quickly! Thanks again for the positive words!!!

Re: hello from the other side!

Also going in Monday here. It was so nice and re-assuring to read your post. I, too, and pretty calm about the whole thing. It doesn't hurt that I teach 600 students and a significant percentage of parents are nurses and doctors who have offered their prayers, support and experience. Thanks for posting such a positive and hopeful message!
