No Date: Addominal hysterectomy pain compared to C-Section?

I have had four c-sections including three with vertical incisions from my naval to pubic bone. For those who have had both, how does the pain from the two recoveries compare? I thought the c-section recoveries were a breeze - went to the mall on the way home from the hospital 48 hours after surgery - and immediately began caring for my other kids and the two newborns each time without help except for my husband. I'm scared that my impending hysterectomy will be much worse though. Can anyone who has had both compare the two recoveries?

We are all so different and our recoveries vary greatly. You will likely hear the hysterectomy was easier for some women, worse for other women or the recoveries were similar. My surgeon considered the hysterectomy to be a more involved surgery with a longer recovery time.

I had both, a C section with an incision that went from my belly button to the pubis, and then a lap hysterectomy that took out the whole magilla.

As far as pain, it was similar, my immediate after the procedure pain was well controlled by pain meds, and in both surgeries I had spinal anesthesia and then was put out. By the time I was up and walking, I was really sore but pain was well controlled by pills.

I actually recovered slower after my second procedure, but I was about 40 years older!

Depending on your age, your experience may be different. I would never let the fear of pain stop me from getting necessary surgery, that's what they make pills for! I actually only used the narcotic pills a few days, then used Ibuprophen for maybe another week.
