Will I need HRT after ovaries removed?

My doc told me I may not need hrt is this really true? Does anyone know when or if it will hit me ( menopause)? My surgery is next tue, a lavh or tah with bso thanks

I had LAVH/BSO, and I definitely needed hrt. Removing the ovaries causes surgical menopause, ie. ovaries are no longer there, and they manufactured the hormones that our bodies have been used to. I would recommend that you explore what your options are regarding hormone replacement and discuss further with your doctor.

Are you already menopausal? If you are, you shouldn't need hrt. I needed it badly, but I was still perimenopausal before surgery. I hope you don't need it. The sweats were awful

Unless you want to risk osteoporosis, vaginal atrophy and eraly demementia you do, yes. ERT anyway, in whatever form.

Everyone seems to be different. The approach in Canada has been wait and see if you need it. Whereas my American sisters have been sent home from the hospital with estrogen patches on their butt. I needed it and it took awhile to find the right combo and dosage. I would have gone on HRT sooner but tried to "tough-it-out" first and that was a mistake. I have read many posts from others who have recovered beautifully and quickly and did not need HRT. Go figure - we are all so different. Good Luck!

i would most definitely take hrt if i had my ovaries removed. your dr should have a good hrt plan for you in advance. obviously its your choice whether to take it or not but only make that decision after youve done a lot of research on surgical menopause and the long term effects of that. good luck!

I agree that it is a good idea to discuss all your options with your dr.
I was already a couple of years menopausal when I had my tah/bso and was started on hrt ( estrogen only ) the day after surgery. Even then, I had sonme pretty unpleasant menopuasal symptoms until my dr & I found the right dosage. He explained that our ovaries still produce after menopause, just at a reduced level.

You and your dr should be able to determine what will work best for you.

before surgery I too was very concerned about menopause symptoms and HRT, but I took the 'wait and see" approach and it was a good thing I did. discovered I didnt really needed to take any hrt and I felt wonderful. I had very minor "heat" episodes (didnt bother me at all) and my mood was better, so its been almost 10 months since my surgery (ovaries removed) and I am doing just great! the only thing is I have a bit of vaginal dryness and for that I use KY jelly and works just fine, I also take my multivitamin with calcium for strong bones and Omega 3 for a strong heart.
talk it over with your doctor and get a second opinion if need to, make the best decision for you, and have a good and healthy life.....a big
