Water Retention?
I'm about 5 months post op TAH (have my ovaries) and feel like I have water retention. I have "love handles" now but my weight is the same. I don't get it.... has anyone else experienced this? My breasts have gotten larger as has my waist, but I'm not eating more. Actually, I've been eating less and exercising more than usual. The doc offered me a water pill but that idea didn't appeal to me so I refused them. Any advice or words of wisdom? Thanks!

Water Retention?
Hi Kimmy - are you drinking tons of water? My weight is about the same (after losing and regaining close to 15 pounds since early November). I can tell when I'm retaining water - my wedding ring gets tight right away, but I haven't noticed it as a problem since my hyst. Is it a constant feeling of water retention or do you think it is PNS symptoms? I've had a few months when my boobs get sore, I get kinda crampy, and feel like I am about to start period, but my period was so screwy before my hyst that I can't pin down the time of month for sure. Are you on any different meds since the hyst? My breasts don't seem bigger (thank GOD because I don't need that) but my waist is a bit bigger, mostly because of my swellybelly. How is your energy level at this point? Not any help here, obviously, but I do feel bloated sometimes, and I just keep thinking it will go away soon.....

Water Retention?
Kimmy
My date is almost yours!
I too feel so big around the middle. I have gained about two kg (4.4 pounds) but it feels like so much more. I feel bloated around my face and especially my middle. My clothes fit but I have this huge bulge round the tummy & waist. I am getting quite down about it because I am eating very sensibly, exercising now too but it's still there. I haven't done anything too early that would cause problems. I am drinking lots of water in answer to Painter Lee's question. I feel larger than when I did at 6 weeks to be honest, at that stage I felt my clothes were looking so much nearer to normal than they do now.

Water Retention?
Marianni! You have described it EXACTLY! I felt almost thinner for a few weeks post op. For a while my breast were very sore. Now they aren't, they are just larger and they were large enough before! I think I've probably gone to a "D" from a "C" but I refuse to admit it and buy a larger bra! It's weird for me to have the weight around my middle - I generally don't gain weight there. I will try drinking more water and watching the salt content of my food. Painter Lee: no new meds and my energy level is fine. I don't regret my hysterectomy and certainly don't miss my period, but the cornucopia of "surprises" that keep coming up are becoming a drag... The most surprising was the fact that i look like I had breast augmentation instead of surgery. The most annoying is certainly this spare tire that i didn't even have the pleasure of eating too much to get! :-)

Water Retention?
Well, it sounds like we are all at about the same stage. My energy level is great now, finally, and most days I feel good. Still some pulls, aches, etc. but not bad at all. I kept hoping I'd look like I had a breast reduction after surgery (this was totally made up in my mind -- I wished that somehow not having a uterus would make my boobs smaller - nuts, I know, but you can't imagine my state of mind before surgery and somehow I convinced myself that I'd have those nice perky breasts I've always wanted right along with no periods!). Anyway, boobs are still big, but not any bigger, but belly/waist is bigger and hopefully will go back to normal soon. Hang in there girls - hopefully by 6 months things will be even better! And no periods this summer - Hurray!!!!

Water Retention?
my question is why you didn't want to try the diuretic? are they bad, i had to use it after one of my c-sections and for my hyst i need two shots of lasix to get my kidneys working properly. for my c-section i only needed 3 pills and it worked great, got rid of all my bloating and water retention and same with my hyst. i do have swelly belly and my post op appt was today, and my doc told me to wear a binder or spandex type pants to push the fluid else where, where the body can get rid of it, he said that the things that would normally get rid of it quite working in the belly because of the surgery so if you wear something like the binder or spandex then it pushes it to where the things are working (he told me the name but of course i can't remember it LOL). well good luck and best wishes

Water Retention?
Hi Christina. No good reason that i refused the diuretic. I guess I will be honest (and embarassed to say) that I just felt like "old ladies" take water pills and I have not yet managed to embrace the fact that I am (seemingly) suddenly almost 44 years old, when last I checked, I was 28! :-)

Water Retention?
I'm currently taking progesterone and the water retention and weight gain around the middle is slowly going away. Could be a hormonal imbalance.

Water Retention?
Hummingbird3, I wondered too if it is linked to hormones, at the moment I take estrogen only but I intend seeing the gyn soon if things don't get better. Other things seem ok though and I don't want to mess up the success there. But I feel I have to do something so I feel an appointment coming up!!
Kimmy, I see you have kept your ovaries but are you taking any hrt? You made me smile- I feel the same- larger but without the pleasure of eating badly to get there!
Can you just buy water pills? I want to try anything now (within some reason!!). Anyone know what they are called here in UK?
