Help...I found out Today...TAH on Wednesday!

I went to the doctor today to consult about a TAH, and I am now scheduled for Wednesday THIS week!!! The hospital just happened to have an opening...I have had many years of abnormal bleeding and had a ablasion last may, which I thought had finally fixed the problem...but I am back where I started. I have PCOS, diabetes and am very overweight. I know this will not solve all my problems, but I hope this surgery will put me back on my feet to begin living again. I am afraid of the pain of the incision is going to be where my big belly folds over, and will never heal. Has anyone else had this issue? Too, I have a hard time walking and standing for a long time, because of my weight, will they be understanding in the hospital?

Help...I found out Today...TAH on Wednesday!

First of all congratulations on having this done in such a hurry that you don't have a whole lot of time to fret and worry As to your weight, women of all shapes and sizes have undergone this and the hospital staff where you'll be will have seen them all. If at any time you do not feel like you're being taken care of to the best of the hospital's ability ask for the head nurse. If you do not feel comfortable walking without support ask that they provide you with a walker. Best of luck to you and be sure to say hello when you're feeling up to it when you get home so we can give you more You'll be in my prayers for the ability to get through this and a speedy recovery.

Help...I found out Today...TAH on Wednesday!

Best wishes for a speedy recovery! My sister had her hyst 2 yrs ago, she was 350 pds. They also took off a hernia and excessive flesh hanging . She used a walker at first in the hospital but came home without one. My surgery is next week. Although I weigh less than that I am still overweight. They are bringing in a second dr, a specialist from the bay area because of possible excessive bleeding due to the size of the uterus/fibroids and the scar tissue from the c-sections.

Hi LittlePooh!
My surgery is scheduled the same day as yours. Recently there was a long thread about "fluffy" sisters, and plenty of responses. I am overweight as well, and found all sorts of good information and hints on how to deal with the belly If I can locate it, I will paste the link at the bottom of this post.

I'm disabled due to back problems, so some days I have a hard time getting around too. I think getting these big fibroids and my extra large uterus out will do me a world of good, not to mention the almost constant periods and pain associated with them.

The important thing is clean and dry. I went and bought some 4" gauze on the advice of another sister to help keep the "sweat" to a minimum.

Aha! Here is the recent thread full of good stuff
Overweight cause complications?
Look it over. We are not alone.

I hope all goes well during your trip to the castle, and wish you a speedy easy recovery! See you on "the other side"

This sounds terrible, but if possible, see if you can get a plastic surgeon in there and do a little work on you while you're open. I know a lot of Hyster Sisters who have done this and have come out with wonderful results.

As far as your fast approaching surgery date, less time to worry, but I have a feeling you'll do just fine and will feel so much better afterwards.

God bless you!

Help...I found out Today...TAH on Wednesday!

Hi there -- MJ, fluffy sister, reporting for duty!

I don't think you have to worry about being treated any differently because of your size.... that being said, however, it's always in the back of my mind whenever I have anything done. (Will the gowns fit? Will they give me a second one to wear like a robe so I don't have "gap-osis"?) I remember when I had my hysterectomy, I asked about an extra gown, and the nurse said, "Honey -- we ALL wear them like that!" and she brought a second one for me each time I changed. (I don't know if it was really true, but it made me feel better.

One thing I can suggest is asking for a tummy binder when you leave the . Mine was actually two binders put together (to give more coverage) and it was like a very strong Ace bandage. It helped give great support to my tummy, and it also held all of the bandages and dressings on so I didn't need to worry about using that nasty adhesive tape.

Best wishes to you. You'll be royalty soon.
