Nausea and Bladder Spasm @ 2 weeks: 2 questions

:confuse: Yesterday was two weeks post-op from a TAH. The first week was as expected.
At the end of week one (Thursday/Friday) I developed bladder spasms (constant sense that I "need to go" & feeling I can't/don't totally empty my bladder).
Called the OB-Gyn last Friday. They said it may be a bladder infection and prescribed an antibiotic and phenazopyridine. If I didn't feel better by the weekend to go to the ER.
Sunday I didn't feel a lot better so went to local doc-in-box and was told my urine was clear, no infection. He changed me to an antispasmodic, Urispas (flavoxate), which knocks me out. It helps, but not my favorite thing to take. The prescription is for 1-2 tabs three to four times daily. The flavoxate also causes constipation.
Yesterday and today (Friday) I had nausea.
Yesterday I took 2 doses of pain meds, one dose = half of a Vicodin tab + 1 Tylenol tab, 8 - 12 hours apart.
Yesterday I took two doses (1 tab) of the flavoxate, 8 -12 hours apart.
This AM was the last dose of the antibiotic, Bactrim DS (1 tab twice daily).
I am still having mild bladder spasms, that come and go. I am trying to drink lots of water and I pretend to "blow" bubbles which helps me empty my bladder. (My thanks to your website!)
1. Are bladder spasms that start a week out and then continue a potential complication of the surgery? If so, how long can they last?
2. I don't think the nausea is medication-related, any other ideas? If I kept my ovaries, could it be hormonal?

My bowels are working OK, no obstruction and I still take the stool softener.
Maybe I'm just an anxious hypochondriac who wants to feel better and clear my head from the fog. Or maybe Thursday & Friday aren't my best days of the week.

Thank you,
laura g.

Nausea and Bladder Spasm @ 2 weeks: 2 questions

Hi Laura!

I am not sure if it is normal, but i had the exact same experiance...I still occasionally have a bladder spasm (3 months out) but have learned to ignore them...it wasnt easy at first considering they were so frequent and irritating..but they are lessoning....

As for the nausea..I have read that to is normal and it is not fun either...some docs give anit nausea pills at release, so if it bothers you, then contact your doctor and see if he thinks you could benefit from them

You are not a hypochondriac! you have just had major surgery which your body will take a while to fully recover...so relax(if you can) and listen to your body...
and keep drinking the water...

Good luck!

Thank you for the encouragement!

:dance2: Thank you Jabs! Today so far, so good. I was up until 6:30 AM so just woke up and haven't eaten yet. I think you are right about the spasms, learn to ignore them.
This website is the greatest. Kudos to the ladies who dreamed this up and keep it going. I don't feel so alone. The only ladies I only know who had hysterectomies did so more than 10 years ago and memories fade.

Good luck with your recovery!

Nausea and Bladder Spasm @ 2 weeks: 2 questions

I have had bladder spasms, too. (4 1/2 weeks post-op). My Dr. says this is normal, and they will lessen with time.

Nausea and Bladder Spasm @ 2 weeks: 2 questions

I had bladder spasms too. The nurse from my doctor's office finally gave me 4 days samples of Urelle, which was terrific -- after 2 pills the spasms were gone, which gave my body a chance to relax and heal. After the pills were gone the spasms returned, but much milder, and not such a big deal.

I've also had sporadic nausea for no apparent reason. Days 2-5 after surgery I couldn't hold anything down, including water, and they finally put me on Zofran, which helped. Then I weaned myself off of that and was ok for a while, but every couple of weeks I get a queasy feeling, and have to eat just small light meals for a few days until I'm back to normal.
