wondering SAH or LAVH? any advice?

I am scheduled for a LAVH on Tuesday but I just read a post from someone who did research and decided to go with a SAH - don't know what the difference is between SAH and TAH. But I was hoping they can take out my uterus (large fibroids) by laparoscope because I need a quick recovery (can't take time off work) but now I'm wondering if I'm not asking for trouble. Can anyone help?

if you want just your uterus removed (keep cervix and ovaries), you are probably talking about the lsh. just the uterus is removed by laparoscope. that seems to have the quickest recovery. what you are having is your uterus and cervix removed vaginally with the assistance of a laparoscope. if you cant take any time off of work and want a quick recovery, you should probably research your options more. usually an lavh is anywhere from 4-6 weeks off on average. with your surgery so close and monday being a holiday, i dont know that you really have time to change anything. besides, if you wanted the lsh, your dr might not even be trained to do that. good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I had an SAH, I kept my cervix. I was glad to see my ovary go! I really didn't have much choice to what kind I had. Due to some previous med issues, a lap would have been too risky.

I had a LAVH on 2/20/08. I am very pleased with the results and glad that I had it done. If I were you, I would do some research to make the choice that is best for you. It did take some time to recover...as my dr. said, we may have done it laproscopically but inside you still had the same thing done. It's still major surgery. If you cannot take any time off work now but possibly could at a later date, it may be better to wait, in my opinion. Hope things work out well.
