question about diagnosing prolapse

Hi all, I have a question about a tranvag ultrasound for diagnosing uterine prolapse. I guess a little information is needed first. I'm 34 diagnosed with endometriosis.

I went to my GP (we've just moved and I was going to get a referral for a gyn) for my annual pap and during the exam she said my cervix was barely an inch away from the vaginal opening and sent me for an ultrasound. I went for the ultrasound and the tech put a wedge under me to lift my hips at on an incline. I guess my question is wouldn't that be counter productive? My dr said they would probably do it standing but they didn't. The ultrasound came back normal except for a ovarian cyst and fibroids. I asked for a referral to a gyn but I that is and that is a week away.

Thanks for reading my rambling. Everything is a little overwhelming.

Re: question about diagnosing

I'm not a doctor but it seems to me if your doctor physically examined you and your cervix was an inch from your vagina opening, that would be a prolapse. Maybe the ultrasound tech didn't position you correctly. Try to hang tight until your appointment. I know it is scary to not know for sure what's wrong.

Re: question about diagnosing prolapse

Hi Raya:

My doc did not use ultrasound to diagnose prolapse. Perhaps your doc is looking for other gyn issues? Here is a link to the Prolapse section of our Resources Directory: https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/lin...=browse&cid=27

I hope you are able to find the right answers soon. Keep us updated after your next appointment.

I am sending huge cyberhugs

Re: question about diagnosing prolapse

Well I went to my appt today and felt like it was productive. First off I don't have a uterine prolapse just an overly long cervix. I do however have hyper mobility in my urethra and slight rectocele.

We discussed options to deal with the endo. My options were mirena iud, lupron, or a hysterectomy. Now I just have to research my options and decide what I want to do. For the hyper mobility she feels that I may need a small piece of mesh to help support the urethra but we will discuss that again in 2 weeks when I have another appt.

Any opinions on my options or where to research my options would be appreciated.
