If I were to stop taking my HRT .....

I am 9 weeks post-op from a LAVH/BSO. I was given the Vivelle Dot patch the day after and that didn't agree with me so I was switched to Estrace. I have those "phantom" type pains that have been mentioned, pain when I would have had a period. It's been really bad. My question is .... is the HRT making the pain worse? If I stopped the HRT would it help ease my pain? How long can I reasonably expect to have this pain 3 weeks out of a month like I did before my hyst? There have been days when I have felt quite well. So yes, I'm very frustrated and getting quite depressed. I really did not expect to have this kind of pain after my surgery. I figure when I healed from surgery, that would be it. Guess I should have known better.

If I were to stop taking my HRT .....

Bumping you up so someone can chime in with some helpful info for you. Sorry I can't offer any help myself as I still have my ovaries so I don't need to deal with HRT at this time. Have you checked with your doc on this?

If I were to stop taking my HRT .....

I had a blood clot after surgery and had to stop taking my hrt. I too had phantom pains for awhile but they are now starting to ease. I still have pms somewhat but for the most part it is over. I feel fine now. I had quite a scare after my surgery as a clot broke away for my abdomen that went through my heart and into my lung. I almost died before I was rushed to hospital. Since hormones have a risk of causing clots my doc and I decided that we had better stop them. I hope you start feeling well soon.

If I were to stop taking my HRT .....

I stoped my HRT while I had the stomach flu for a week.

I started having hot flashes about 4 days after I stoped them.... so that might be something to consider... I am back on them and they have stoped!!!

I have not had AF visit since I was 16 so I don't know about the pain part!!!

Good Luck!

If I were to stop taking my HRT .....

Hi Moonie,

I do think many women can have phantom pains for quite some time after this surgery, but I certainly understand your disappointment and worry with your history of endo. If you decide to do a trial without HRT you might want to ask your doc for suggestions on weaning yourself off it.

I hope the pain resolves soon. Let us know how it goes, okay?

Best wishes & s,
Beth
