Re: Pets acting strange towards me... anyone else?

My pitbull/boxer mix didnt leave my side when I came home. I was scared she would jump up on my me which is usuasly how she greets me but she didnt. When I would go to be she would jump up on the bed and laid beside of me. When I was on the couch she would lay in the floor in front of me. She never left my side and was so calm and gentle. My springer spaniel didnt act any differently at all but he is more attatched to my son. The pit mix is attatched to me. The cat could care less just as long as I fed her.lol She is the queen of this castle and just lets the rest of us stay here with her.lol

Two days post hysterectomy: Pets acting strange towards me since home from hospital... anyone else?

When I had my myomectomy in June, my dog (4 yr old lab) was very mellow. I stayed at my parents' home while recuperating for a few days and my dog and their dog (also a lab) took turns "guarding" me whenever I was in bed. I do think they know something is wrong/different.

Re: Pets acting strange towards me... anyone else?

My cat still hasn't completely left my side. The first few days he didn't leave expect to eat and take care of his business. Now he is still staying close. I think they can tell.

Re: Pets acting strange towards me... anyone else?

Well I so happy to hear my dog wasn't the only one acting weird. I left for the hospital at 12pm on Wed Oct.31 and was home by 12 pm the next day. My poor little guy had such sad puppy eyes. He follows me everywhere. The only thing that has changed is he asks daddy to take him out instead of me. I think somehow they know.

Red face - Two days post hysterectomy: Pets acting strange towards me since home from hospital... anyone else? Re: Pets acting strange towards me... anyone else?

U know im noticing the same thing with my late stepmothers cat....she is a chocolate point siamese, 12 yrs old and before my surgery when i came to visit she growl and hiss and swat at me....for few days after my surgery when i started having the discharge she became lovey-dovey with me......and has been even more now that my stepmom passed two weeks after my surgery and she(the cat) surprised everyone tonight with coming out of hiding and letting everyone get close and pet her....i was in the room when this happened

Re: Pets acting strange towards me... anyone else?

There's certainly something to the theory that animals/pets are able to 'sense' illness and/or signficant changes in the mood of their owners. Studies have been carried out to investigate the use of dogs in detecting certain types of cancer, melanoma in particular. I think there was also a study using dogs to detect prostrate cancer cells within urine. Amazing what our little 4-legged friends can do without be able to speak.

I have eight cats-I know but all were back yard rescues and there in no no-kill shelters in our area. They did happy dances when I got home then abandoned me. A few hrs later prince came and sat on my lap and started purring. Maybe they can smell the hosp and don't like what they smell

Re: Pets acting strange towards me... anyone else?

It's hard to say but my dog would not come by me and I could not figure it out. Than I realized he was frightened by my negative pressure bandage pump. Ugh! Poor baby!! Good luck for they come around.
