They reschedualed me

Was supposed to go for total abdominal hyst,(everything but ovaries) with bladder reconstruction, this past tuesday but called monday night to cancel, apparenlty no hospital beds,(Im in Vancouver Canada) I'm now reshedualed for OCt 6. Im so depressed about the whole thing, as I was ready to go packed and daycare arranged for my 10 and 11 year old sons. Its only another three weeks, but I'm still so upset about being canceled, everytime I look at the clock I say to myself that I could have been post op so many hours. Its maddening. What a rollercoaster. Ill have to get my self mentally already again. Needless to say I've been in a fowl mood this week.

My obgyn says a 5 day stay is more accurate. What are the opinions out there? I had two c sections before as well. I hear the bladder reconstruction hurts more than the hyster.
I get a private room 100 % paid for, and figure a 3-4 day stay is more likely.

ANyone who has had c sections before and now a abdominal hyster? Is the pain much different, or worse. Can I expect the same things?

thanks for listening

They reschedualed me

I've never had a c-section before. I just wanted to say how bad I feel for you that you had to reschedule your surgery. Everything happens for a reason. Will you have any problems rescheduling the day care for your boys? I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers

They reschedualed me

Hi Galvatron.....
First off let me say how frustrating. Do they not know how many bedss they have to book? I understand the concept of emergencies but they should have a number of beds available to surgery pts.
Which hospital, Womens in Vancouver? I remember living there (PoCo) and you had to wait forever to see a specialist let alone get in.

I really hope they come to their senses...adn get you a bed NOW....Take care....

They reschedualed me

Hi from Cloverdale,
Yikes, a 5 day stay! Thats a long time these days!!! They seem to like to kick you out as soon as they can.

Kat, You sure are right about the specialists! It took me two months to get in to see mine. Seems you have to be dying rather than just feeling like you are to get any attention around here! Was worth the wait though, she is great.

galvatron,

I'm sorry you've had your hyster delayed. I know that has to be very frustrating when you've had your mind and heart all set on a certain date.

I had 2 c-sections and then my SAH (18 yrs afterwards, but some things you just don't forget). In some ways, the abdominal hyster is similar, but the "ouchies" after surgery are "deeper" somehow. You're having an organ removed, not just cut and then stitched shut. Things get a bit jostled around in there. As long as I kept on top of the pain, it never got out of control...I was never very uncomfortable. My pain was probably never over a 4.....and I can remember cramps in the past that were worse than what I felt post-op.

One advantage we have over our non c-section sisters is that we know how to move, get up, roll over, etc. after abdominal surgery. I found that if I moved wrong after my SAH, it did hurt worse than it had after the c-sections, but I did my best to be careful.

Hang in there, Sis. Your castle visit will be here before you know it. Why not take this time to do fun things with your kids and do some relaxing "special" things just for you?
