Do I or don't I still have my cervix? ? answered

Hi, Hystersisters,
After reading and posting about having or not still having a cervix I had my two week appt. and decided to ask the dr. a few questions. I need to preface the fact that he is wonderful, caring, and a very good surgeon. I asked him if I still had my cervix. He looked surprised and said no, with a LAVH it is nearly impossible to keep the cervix as its attached to all of the rest of the organs he removed. The dr. then sat down and APOLOGIZED for not having explained the procedure well enough. He then asked if I had any other questions about what the surgery entailed. I then mentioned about the vaginal cuff, and he explained about the healing process, the possible but unlikely effects on intercourse etc. The dr. spent 1/2 hour with me discussing my concerns and addressing possible HRT use after waiting a month for all of the endo to die. I don't see him again for another 5 weeks but I am to call if I have any questions, or want to start HRT. I feel very fortunate to have such a great doctor.
Thank you hystersisters for letting me know that I probably didn't have my cervix anymore. I felt ignorant wondering do I or don't I have my cervix. I would have bet money that I still did since nothing had been mentioned about my cervix being removed. We talked about ovaries, tubes and uterus. Now, I know and life can go on.

Hi Kinderclass,

In my opinion, the LAVH is a top notch laparoscopic hyst. I had a LSH, a ~sister~ lap.

I have seen a couple of cervix-retaining ladies post lately that they were going in for a possible post-op cervix removal due to endo. Hope that makes you feel better about your hyst type. It sounds like you and your Dr. made a good choice for your long term health.

ONe, good for you for being your own best advocate!
I had a doc that was under the impression that I had also attended medical school...And when I started asking him questions, he was also surprised that he hadnt said anything.
There is sooooooooooo much entailed with this surgery, I am sure the docs cant cover all the bases. Good thing he backtracked and apologized though!

A good idea would be for you to check out the pre op sight and offer your wisdom to hte new ladies.
Iknow when I started, I had no idea the things that I did not know...I hope that made sense.
