Question about vitamins

Can we take multi vitamins with iron after our hysters? A "well meaning" friend told me they had to be without iron now or it would mess with the HRT. Is this true? I hope not as I have taken them a few times and I have most of a bottle still left. If it is true I will stop, but I truly don't know. I hope one of you ladies knows the answer, as you usually do!!

Question about vitamins

I don't know for sure about the iron part, but your pharmacist that you get your HRT from should have that information. Also, your doctor who prescribed the HRT might be able to tell you. I only took iron before my hysterectomy due to massive bleeding requiring D & C the month before. When my iron stores were adequate finally, I had the surgery. Good luck!

I would just watch it or ask your doctor about anything with iron supplements right after your surgery as they can be constipating - and you certainly don't need to have more constipating things in you, especially if you are also taking pain medicine which usually already does a great job at doing that.

I was taking these vitamins pre op. I had not really paid much attention to them post op until this week. But I have had alot of bm problems post op so I better just leave the vitamins alone!!

Question about vitamins

Hi mrswillie,

Here is a link to iron in multivitamins that may interest you. Since you have had a hysterectomy (even if you kept your ovaries) your iron needs will be that of a menopausal woman. I have never heard that it inteferes with HRT, I would be interested if anyone knows more about that.
