How much does a uterus weigh?

I'm curious if anyone knows how much your body parts weigh when they remove them? I had a TAH/BSO a week ago and I've had a significant weight loss, at least to me. I weighed 167 lbs when I went in for surgery on Friday, December 26. Now a week later, I'm down 12 lbs. I was on a liquid diet for two days and I have a decreased appetite, but I am eating. Is this normal? I'm not complaining because this will help me stay motivated to keep the weight off and lose more after I'm healed. Just wondered if other princesses lost weight after getting punctured?
Thanks,
Lisa

How much does a uterus weigh?

Hi,

Quoting from a book called "Fibroids: The Complete Guide to Taking Charge of Your Physical, Emotional, and Sexual Well-Being' by Johanna Skilling: "The average uterus is 2 to 4 inches long, 1.5 to 2.5 inches wide and 1 inch thick; it weighs about one-sixth of a pound or 50 grams ... If you've ever been pregnant, your uterus may be on the larger end of those dimensions."

Mine was 395 grams, which is just under a pound. (I was really hoping for a 5 or 10 pound uterus so I could explain away the weight I gained before surgery, but I guess it was just fat from eating chocolate!) Mine measured 13.0 x 9.0 x 6.4 cm. which is the size of a 20 week pregnancy.

I also lost about 10 lbs. while I was in the hospital and another 5 lbs. in the first week post-op, but I think most of it was from not eating for several days (I had problems with nausea and from the morphine.) A couple of weeks after surgery, when my appetite returned, I gained the weight back (unfortunately!)

s,

Lisa

Weight Loss

Hello there,
I weighed in at 129 lbs, went down to 118 at my lowest a week post op (no appetite), but now seem to have steadied around 120, which is nice. I'm eating and drinking normally. I had the equiv. of a 5 months pregnancy-sized uterus, so guess that may explain some of the weight loss. My tum (when it's not being swelly!) is considerably slimmer, so I'm hoping that some of those pounds at least stay off. Hope yours do too.
It would be the icing on the cake if they do, because I'm so pleased to have had the op. done also!
All the best.

How much does a uterus weigh?

I've lost 12 lbs since the surgery and have been eating normally for a couple of weeks now; in fact, I'm hungry all the time and have a big appetite, but I haven't gained the weight back. I attribute my appetite to the fact that I also had my gallbladder removed when I had my TAH and now I don't get sick or feel bad after I eat like I did when I had my gallbladder in.

I'm really looking forward to exercising and will ask my doctor about that when I go in for my check-up this Friday. I'm so glad to hear about your experiences and thoughts, sisters! Thanks so much!

Sincerely,
Kathy

How much does a uterus weigh?

I recently posted a question on this very topic too. Someone responded that a normal uterus weighs about 80 grams and is the size of a plum, (give or take). My weighed 456 grams - about the size of a 15 week pregnancy. I lost about 5 lbs after surgery because I didn't eat much other than soup for the first couple of weeks. Now that I'm eating more, but still not very active, I think I'm going to have to resume Atkins so I don't gain any of the weight I worked so hard to lose before the surgery!

How much does a uterus weigh?

I was told that a normal size uterus for someone who had not had children was between 80 - 90 grams. Mine was 495 grams. I originally weighed about 122 lbs but had gone down to 106 due to stress since it took so long to diagnose the problem. After surgery I weighed about 101 but now fluxuate between 102 -104. I am eating normally but not quite as much as before I lost the weight. I am hoping that I don't gain the weight back - I haven't been this small since I was in college (30 years ago).

How much does a uterus weigh?

Before my surgery I asked my Dr if it was possible to see what was removed! (I was having SAH due to fibroids, leaving cervix and ovaries)
She obliged with a photo of my uterus. She didnt tell me how much it weighed but alongside it was a surgical instrument. I asked how big the instrument was and she said it was 12 inches long. I worked out that my uterus was about 10 inches long and 8 inches wide. No wonder I was always needing to pee, with that pressing on my bladder.

How much does a uterus weigh?

According to my path report, mine weighed 100 grams, about 3 1/2 ounces. I was a bit surprised as I was hoping to lose at least a pound!

Ask your Dr when you go in for a check up as it is in the pathology report. As far as that goes, ask for a copy of the path report -- you (or your insurance company) paid for it!

How much does a uterus weigh?

You would think with all the trouble and discomfort the uterus can cause, it would weigh more.
I'm 5' 3 "/ 130lb. My abdomen felt like a large rock before surgery. Thought it had to weigh at least 5lb. It was just under 2lb. at 900gm. Measured 16x13x9cm.
FYI...1lb =453.6gm
The normal uterus is 70-100gm.
