Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Aug 26-Sep 01,2013

If your hysterectomy was between Aug 26-Sep 01,2013 this is the place to post your progress during your hysterectomy recovery.

If you have a question about your recovery, please start a new thread to receive answers and support for your concerns instead of including the question in your update! There is information on how to start a new thread in this link: New Here? or you can use this link: Post a New Topic in the Post-Op forum.

Post how you are doing here when you are home and well enough to sit a few minutes at your computer.

We hope you are recovering well with plenty of rest and water and a bit of walking. Don't forget to pamper the princess!

How to use the Recovery Progress Reports thread:

  • 1. This thread is for the purpose of sharing updates on your recovery as you heal from your hysterectomy.

  • 2. Generally, ONE or TWO posts on this thread per member/per day is adequate to share your daily progress and to share encouragement with your surgery week Sisters.

  • 3. Remember to start a new thread on the Post-Op message board to ask your questions.

  • 4. The Progress Report threads now begin in our special forum for all Hysterectomy Recovery Reports and will remain there for you to always find your discussion.

  • 5. Remember all the love and support you got here as a pre-op member? Now it's YOUR turn to give back to the women in the Pre-Op Hysterectomy Support forum. Extend your hand and your hugs in replies to our pre-op ladies in waiting. This will complete our circle of women helping women!

  • 6. You can also share support and experiences with post-op members in all phases of recovery in the Post-Op Hysterectomy Support forum by replying on the new threads they create.

Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Aug 26-Sep 01,2013

Welcome to your Recovery Thread, New Princesses!! You made it to the other side!! This thread has been set up for you all to come here update us on how your initial recovery is going. Remember, initial recovery is 2 to 8 weeks, with full recovery taking up to a year!!

My name is Helaine and I have been given the honor of helping you with your recovery!! I had my surgery in April 2012 so not quite one year post op. I will do my best to answer any questions you may have, point you to different areas on the website, and just hand out hugs when you need them.

This thread was a lifesaver for me. I remember feeling like I was the "only" one, but coming on here and reading posts from my same week sisters got me through. This surgery is definitely a journey but please remember it is YOUR journey and therefore very special. Each of us will heal uniquely as each of us has had unique surgeries to whatever our specific issues were. I encourage you to listen to your "heart" and not your "head", and give your body a chance to heal.

You will all have a lot of questions in the days coming up ahead. Many of you will be asking "is this normal?" Many will have questions about swelly belly Gas pains and bathroom issues.
Many will notice some things happening with your emotions.

These are all things that you will go through at some point in your recovery. But don't worry. Most of it is normal and everyone on this thread is going through it at the same time, together!

Remember, if you have questions about your recovery, you can start a new thread in the Post Op Forum to try to get some extra support from your sisters that are further along in their recovery.

A few things to remember.....

Drink Plenty of water
Walk around often
Don't try to be SUPERWOMAN!!
This is your one chance to heal right the first time, so don't forget to PAMPER THE PRINCESS!!

Get your rest!! You will need it.
Remember, this is not a race, recovery takes time so take it slow and you will do great!!! Just keep telling yourself that this is a marathon, not a sprint, so you need to pace yourself!!!

You will have pains and go through things you are not used to, but just remember...it is temporary. There is light at the end of the tunnel now and you are on your way to a better life!!!

Feel free to come here and chat about how you are doing in your recovery. This is a fun place to get to know those that are at the same place in this journey. It is also a great thread to help remind you that you are not alone!!

Again, welcome to the other side!!!!
Sending you all healing hugs!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Aug 26-Sep 01,2013

first surgery of the day 8/26... not sleeping well as everytime I fall asleep they come in for something else.. and this last time I called them I hadn't needed the norco at 1, but at 2:15 or so crampy gut woke me (at 1:45 they emptied the cath bag)... I took norco, and since passes a small amount of gas, but can't decide if some of this would be relieved by pooping or if the norco just hasn't kicked in yet.. its not like my earlier pain on movement/from sitting up, but crampy pain...

Khyricat my best advice is when it is "time" for your pain meds take them anyway whether you feel you need it or not. It is much harder to "get" the pain under control once you're hurting then to "keep" the pain under control. Especially this early on. Sending healing hugs to you sister ((hugs)).

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Aug 26-Sep 01,2013

thanks, I plan on it.. just knew that norco meant eating and I didn't want to wake up that much for it in the middle of the night.. heck any oral meds mean having something in my stomach to take them.. and really my pain is a 1 or a 2 most of the time unless I cough or move wrong right now.. or the gas is building up... I am farting up a storm.. the door to the room needs to stay open for my own breathing..

tstet2006, I have been.. the bumpy ride made me take narcotics, so I slept for 2 hours.. now I'm playing on the 11" laptop and will probably turn the TV on.. DH has already swapped my water bottle for a cold one. Only thing I've gotten up for is to go to the bathroom.
