Long car rides 3 weeks post LAVH orTAH

Well if you know me by now, you know I'm a planning freak. We are suppose to go on a little ski trip 3 wks post op. I know I will not be on the slopes but what about the car ride there it's about 6 hrs.
My concern is 2 or 3 hrs in and wishing I had not gone.

Pink ~ For me, car rides are a nightmare. You can feel every bump on the road. I went on a 1.5 (there and back) car ride at 2 weeks post-op and woke up bleeding (not spotting) the next day. Please ask your doctor before you head out on your trip.

I had a bit more done than just the LAVH but I can tell you that even now, the jerking of the car stopping and starting, turns, bumps, is uncomfortable. Many sisters say it is no problem for them but for many it is. There are discussions on post-op that some of the pre-op sisters find scary because some of us ask questions about our problems (if we have them) but if you go there and look under for "car rides" (use the search bar) you should find a lot more info on that side. Always keep in mind that everyone is different and you never know for sure how you will react to your surgery. If this is something you can give an answer on closer to the departure date than consider it but at this stage I wouldn't want to lock in to anything. It puts the added pressure on you of having to do something and you try to force your recovery. We have a saying on post-op that you only have one chance to heal right and that should be your only focus until you are fully healed. Personally I think 6 hours is a long ride but I do know a sister who had her hyster done around my time who did 9 hours each way for a funeral at 3 weeks. We're all different.

Best of luck on your decision and with your hyster. The waiting is the worst part of it truly.

Cathy:
I'm three weeks post-op LAVH, and I can tell you that I've been in the car far more hours than I would like, driving kids hither and thither, running errands...

It has, without question, set me back. 2 1/2 hours to and from post-op appt. had me in bed the next day. I didn't bleed before driving, now I spot when I overdo it. Driving requires certain restriction of movement and a somewhat unnatural position for your back and legs.
Suddenly muscles that didn't hurt start to holler, and should you get a tweak in an incision site, it'll be a keeper for the rest of the trip.

Also, sitting for six hours isn't a good idea for keeping your bowels movin' along, which may become a bit of an issue post hyst.
I do seem to be up high on the spectrum of good recoveries, from what I see on these posts.

So, please forgive the boldness here, but I'm guessing you just may regret having gone. This is major surgery, and the most womanly, strong-willed, boldest of us get to find out that our bodies speak louder than our words.

Good luck making this tricky decision.

Well we think you're pretty cool too you little Georgia Peach!

Seriously, I'd ask the family that with all things considered with your surgery if the family could go someplace closer this year or wait till you're more fully recovered.
