Hysterectomy with redundant colon?
I went to see my surgeon last night with questions I have prior to my scheduled FAH in April. It was the first time I had seen her since I made the final decision between the myomectomy or FAH, so I had a list of questions for her. One question being I'm told by both my gastro and colon/rectal surgeon that I have a redundant/elongated colon. Meaning it's longer then normal. My GYN surgeon said she never heard of this and needs to speak to both doctors to understand how this could potentially be an issue. She is most likely going to push off the FAH until we can get all of the facts and speak to both of them. She is concerned that I get colonoscopys and constipation and have IBS and need laxatives to move my bowels. I am appreciative that she is being thorough and concerned etc. But my question is has anyone had this issue? What could be the risk? I know my colon/rectal surgeon did tell me last year that removing a piece of my colon was a big surgery like a "hysterectomy" and she didn't want to do that if she didn't have to, But now are they going to possibly do both being I'll be cut open already? My GYN surgeon is afraid that with taking the narcotics after the FAH can cause a bigger issue if I already have issues going to the bathroom. Sometimes I don't go for a week to 10 days at a time. I'm all all the place on this post I apologize. I'm nervous.......Any help will do! Please and thank you!
