what happens at the post op appointment

I am worried about the fact that my DR wonts to see me 3 weeks post op.
What do they do at the post op appointment?

He said he needs to see me because of the internal bleeding i had. + 2 blood transfustions.

Is this appointment going to hurt?
You dont suppose he is going to wont to cheak out his work do you?
I think it is too early, everything is still very tender.
TVH A&P> episiotomy and worried.....

Can anyone tell me what happened on their first visit post op please.

IM going on the 21 march.

Thankyou

Not to worry!

My first appointment after my SAH/BSO plus repairs was at 2 1/2 weeks. The Dr. did a pelvic exam (which didn't hurt at all---he was very gentle). He noticed an area that was not healing as fast as the rest and used silver nitrate stick to cauterize it. OUCH. This did hurt a little, but not too bad in comparison to what I'd just been through.

He asked me how I was feeling, what my activity level was, checked the incision --the top layer was glued together with Durabond--and found no damage, etc.

Next, he went over in detail, my pathology results. Although I'd spoken to his PA when they came in, she gave me just an overview. He explained anything I had questions about.

Then, he spent the next 30 minutes answering the other questions I had written down to ask him. Although his office was standing room only, he took the time to answer every single question I had. He didn't even appear rushed. WOW--did I ever have a great Dr for this surgery!

In case you were wondering what kind of questions I had
--since I had a really bad case of endo, I had questions about HRT.
--like everyone else, I wanted to know how soon I could have sex.
--I wanted to know if I would be physically capable of diving on our trip to Honduras--scheduled as I would be approaching my 6th week post op.
--and so on.

Nothing to be worried about. I left the Drs office much relieved.

Let us know how your visit goes!

what happens at the post op appointment

Hi Mist

I had the same concerns about a week ago prior to my first post-op visit and several of the sisters here were most helpful with what to expect, so I'm sure others will reply too.

I had a 2 week post-op appt. I had TAH/BSO & a bladder sling, but I didn't have any problems such as you did.
I did NOT have an internal exam - the dr. told me she'd do that at 6 weeks. She checked my external incision; she went over my surgery/pathology reports and we talked about questions I had (spotting/HRT/activity restrictions and so on).

That was it!

Take care. s

Post op appt

Hi Mist,

I had to have two pelvic exams at 3 weeks post op. The first was in the ER and it was horrible. I was bleeding internally and they were trying to find the source. He was swabbing and scraping and it really hurt. It was probably because I was actively bleeding at the time and he couldn't figure out where it was coming from. He also wasn't my normal GYN. They put vaginal packing in and told me to follow up with my GYN the next day. Then my GYN actually called me that evening (it was the weekend so he hadn't been on call) and told me what time to come in and asked me to take two Vicodin before my appt. I was dreading another exam and thinking it was going to be horrible since he'd told me to take meds, but the next day it didn't hardly hurt at all. He was very gentle and sensitive to the fact that I'd just had surgery. He just wanted to get in there and make sure the bleeding had stopped and the vaginal cuff was healing okay. I'm guessing with the bleeding you have had they might want to do a pelvic. Do you still have pain meds? I'd take one or two before appt. if I were you. If not, maybe you can check with your doctor. Hope all goes well for you.

what happens at the post op appointment

Hello there.

My post op appointments went okay. I went for two of them...one about a week after I returned home from surgery and one at 6 weeks. The one that was a week out was for a bulge that I thought I had on the left side. They did LOTS of work on me internally...the doctor said I was a "mess" inside. So, I swelled up really big and I was extra swollen on that left side. That day that I went in I was really sore...only a week out. The nurse practioner was gentle, did not do a pelvic but looked at the incision and pressed LIGHTLY. The 6 week post op was not much different. She asked lots of questions, carefully examined my incision (I had a TAH BSO), pressed lightly...that was it. I was expecting a pelvic but she did not give me one.

God bless.

thankyou so much for your repilys expecially the heads up on taking extra pain meds before the appointment.

Let me tell you i needed them. and did get an internal exam. eventhough my DR is very gentel, there was an ouch factor in that visit! he said all the stiches were still in place. (there was alot with the repairs)

and im still unshure about his fancy suspension, ( that he said, "eventually will become a new vaginal floor, when the scar tissue covers over the mesh."
sounds so unreal to me, I hope i heal right.

Still not aloud to do anything for another 4 weeks (because of bleeding), till i go back and see him agian, wants to take a better look at his work, should have stoped bleeding by then.

i cant wate till i can function well agian, but i am happy with how things are going.could be worse..

thanks agian ladies!!
take care..
