Birth control for homones? Am I ever going to feel normal?

I had my surgery on May 11th ( a total hyst). On May 16th thank god i was still in the hospital I got up to use the bathroom and my incision busted open and I had to have surgery again. I had an infection in the sight, and in the vagina. Found out I have a heart problem, and now have lyphedema. I gained 35 lbs in the hospital in one week. I have lost all of that now but my legs still swell up every day. My one leg feels like its asleep all the time and my doctor tells me this is normal and it usally comes back in a couple of weeks to a couple of months. They put me on birth control pills for hormones and I just dont know if thats enough. I have night sweats every night and have to change 3 to 4 times. Today my girlfriend sent pictures of her two daughters and I lost it. I'm just wondering if I am ever going to feel normal again.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 11-May 17,2009

krs34,

My friend from California sent me a bottle of Soy Isoflavones from her whole foods store (she is a vegetarian). They are completely organic and are supposed to be highly recommended for estrogen balance. MAKE SURE you talk with your doctor first if you want to take an herbal supplement rather than the birth control pills (DO NOT mix the two). I can't take birth control due to my migraines and some of my other medical probs. I've tried the synthetic hormones and they triggered my migraines.

To help my mood and to make a change in my life that I could control (as my hysterectomy was something out of my control), I went yesterday and got my haircut. Now instead of fighting with my long, straight, straggly hair (which I've noticed a change in since surgery), I now have a bouncy short bob and I feel like a different woman. It really did help. Try to do something for yourself that makes you feel good.

Good luck to you and hang in there. Every day should be a little closer to your feeling normal again.

you are very welcome. I am going to try to sit outside today (if the rain stays away) to attempt to get some Vitamin D from the sun!

Have a great day.
