ovaries or no ovaries?

I get a lot of hemoragagic cysts on my overies so my question is should I leave them in or take them out or can they just take the one I keep having issues with? I am not sure what to do the doctor of course wants to leave them in. I go in tom to talk to her for my pre op should I ask for any specific lab work or anything.I believe I am going through menopause but they have never checked. Any help would be great thanks!

Re: ovaries or no overies?

Just a little note unless they are really a mess try to keep them the biggest regret of my life was letting the doctor remove mine he said he would have taken them anyway they had cysts and endo attached to the bowel but hormone therapy is hell.

Re: ovaries or no overies?

If the ovaries are healthy or salvageable then keep them.

Read up on risks of ovary removal.

Re: ovaries or no overies?

If you can, keep your ovaries - as long as your family and personal health history allow. They will provide you with health benefits down the road.

I had no choice and lost mine. Surgical menopause is no picnic. I was absolutely MISERABLE! Now, I am on HRT. While it gave me my life back, it is not the same as my own hormones.

Regardless, though, make the decision that is right for you.

Re: ovaries or no overies?

I kept my ovaries. I did not want to be thrown into menopause. I'm only 11 days post op, but I'm very happy with my decision.

Re: ovaries or no overies?

I didn't get to keep mine. I lost one four years ago to a pre-cancerous solid growth. The other was beyond saving with my surgery four days ago. I started HRT immediately (patch put on less than 24 hours after surgery) and so far, I feel better than ever. My hormones were so messed up, I think the artificial, "normal" hormones are a big improvement for me.

I wanted to save the remaining ovary, but at this point, I think everything has happened for the best. My doctor did not make the decision until she was able to get in and actually see the condition of my remaining ovary.

I hope all goes well for you.
