I've got a Surgery Date!

Good afternoon Sistas!

Just returned from my consult with the GYN Cancer specialist and I have a hysterectomy date of May 6th!

A condensed version of my history:
1. Started having heavy periods after age 45, increasingly heavy flow and numerous blood clots. Did not see physician due to loss of employment and benefits.

2. After finding employment, saw new GYN this year (I'm now 50) and had endometrial biopsy; Diagnosis complex hyperplasia with atypia. Was scheduled for TAH in late March, cancelled due to low iron levels and GYN's reluctance. Referred to GYN Cancer specialist in a neighboring state.

3. Saw the GYN Cancer Specialist this morning - what a difference! My original GYN is a good guy, but the specialists take the operation to a new level. They have scheduled me for a DaVinci hyst on May 6, with a possibility that it may be converted to a TAH if my prior abdominal surgeries prevent them from being able to operate the way they anticipate.

I am relieved and hopeful! One side note - I've had two polyps removed in the past 3 months - one this morning at the specialists' office - which they will biopsy and let me know the results. The first one showed no cancer, just need to wait for this one. They wanted to schedule my Hyst sooner, but the DaVinci robot is in high demand across the hospital, so they did the best they could.

I'm going to focus on my health even more the next 30 days - keeping up with my exercise, taking my vitamins, and eating healthy. I want to be in the best shape possible for my surgery.

I'm not sad...I am ready for this to be over so I can get to the next half of my life! I've been reading a LOT here on the site, so I feel I'm prepared for what's coming.

Thanks to all my Sistas for the encouragement, information and sharing your stories!

Re: I've got a Surgery Date!

I am glad you have a date and that you like your surgeon.

Staying focused on your health is great in preparation for your surgery... and after as well.

We will keep sending many positive HysterSister thoughts for a biopsy. I hope all is negative and clear! Let us know.
