Upcoming hysterectomy and hernia repair October 6th: Worried, really worried

I am scheduled to have a partial hysterectomy (keeping overies) and a hernia repair and there are a couple of possible lipoma's around my navel that they are supposed to get also. 2 different doctors. I have a 14 year old daughter that lost her father a few years ago and I am just terrified that I may have complications or even worse. Can anyone tell me of complications they may have had from having these 2 surgeries same day

I haven't had two surgeries I just felt like someone posting in the wee hours deserves a reply! I'm sorry you have the stress of a complicated parenting situation on top of the stress of the surgery. That's a lot to carry yourself. if both docs didn't agree it was safe, it wouldn't be happening at the same time.

Hang in there

While I didn't have two surgeries, two surgeons are sometimes needed - like having a urologist there. I can assure you that there is an entire team of medical professionals in the OR with you, and you are their #1 priority. There'll be one or two dedicated to monitoring your vital signs. The anesthesia induced sleep isn't much like a sleep at all - it's so deep there are no dreams, no sensations, and upon waking up it seems like only 10 minutes have passed rather than several hours. With so many hysterectomies being done each year, many are unremarkable with no complications - because women simply get on with their lives, you don't read their stories often.

While I can't address your concerns (I wish I could), I hope that offers some reassurance.

Your feelings, fears and emotions are very normal. Having this surgery is such an overwhelming experience. The vast majority of women have this surgery and have no complications. But it is easy to get worried, and I know you are concerned for your daughter.

Having a hernia repair during a hysterectomy is not that unusual. Here are a couple of stories that may provide some information:

Hi, my name is Paula and I am also having a hysterectomy and a hernia repair. It will be a total hysterectomy. If the doctors couldn't do it or thought questionable about it , then it would not be done I am having my double surgery in December. Believe me, I too have thoughts and deep concerns. A former pastor of mine said those thoughts are normal and everyone gets then. I worry cause I'm considerably overweight and I have congestive heart failure but my heart specialist gives full clearance for me to have the surgery. I also have lost almost 70 lbs since June 24. I've been on a diet plan of my own and have been exercising an hour or more every day since June 24. This was before I knew anything so I had a head start. I also was diagnosed with endometrial cancer in August.
We will both do just fine with our surgeries and be back home alive and well shortly after in Jesus' name! I plead the blood of Jesus Christ in Jesus' name I pray, Amen, Amen and Amen !!!
