RE: Family help

You will definately need back up after surgery. You will need someone to do just about everything for the first week or 2. All you should be doing is sleeping, resting, taking very short walks, drinking plenty of water, and trying to eat healthy. You will also need some to drive you to your post op Dr. visits. I couldn't even get up and down out of bed for the first few weeks. Also, someone should be in the room with you or close by when you shower, in case you need anything, or God forbid slip or something. You will need someone to prepare your meals too. Good luck..now is not the time to be "private"..you'll need all the help you can get!

What can I expect

just remember that it takes a lot for your body to heal, so you can not do it all yourself, even though you may want to.

I would suggest using the pull down menu on this site and printing off some things that a princess shouldn't do ... maybe tack it on the refrigerator. I think they are written with just enough sense of humor and sincerity to get the point across. My DH went with me to my appointments so he knew exactly what I could and could not do post op. (he pushed me in the shopping carts at the market )

If your doctor has a sense of humor, you might ask him to write a "prescription" for your family. Something to the effect of "patient shall: not clean house, not do laundry, not lift anything more than 2lbs, take plenty of naps, go for short walks, not run family errands ... etc.

Good luck to you,

BSQ
