LSH vs. LAVH ?

Hi Ladies, I'm a newbie here. 1st post. More to come I'm sure!
History, 45 y/o, I have had 2 c-sections 16+ years ago.
Horrible periods for the past 3 years, Ended up in the hospital back in march with critical blood values and had to be transfused. Myomectomy, D&C and Ablation in April that doc says failed. For the 6 months since ablation, 14 day periods with 14 days off. No bargain really, the only thing that's better is no more clots the size of my fist.

Question #1, I was wondering if anyone knows what guidelines the docs use to choose a LSH or a LAVH. with the LSH I would think if you could get the uterus out, why do a LAVH and cut the top of the vagina?

I would just assume to have the LSH and not the extra cutting but are not sure what determines which way the uterus comes out? I'm scheduled for Nov 17th for either procedure, (ovaries can stay) not happy about it, but coming to terms with it as I go. My doc says she'll see what's what when she's in there.

Question #2, has anyone had an ablation with "delayed" results? My doc told me that I should have been a lot better at my 3 month post op appt. I'm wondering if it is just taking my body longer to respond because of the low blood values.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!
Casei

LSH vs. LAVH ?

I'm not totally sure of all the guidelines, but I do know that LSH is excluded if you have cervical pathology, prolapse or cancer.

LSH vs. LAVH ?

i had the lsh because i wanted to keep my cervix and ovaries. i had a very easy recovery. if your cervix is healthy you might want to talk to your dr about it. i've had quite a few abdominal surgeries and had no problem having the lsh.

LSH vs. LAVH ?

Hey Casei, I have never heard of delayed results for an ablation. My DR said it would stop the bleeding but it may start again. My ablation only stopped the bleeding for a few weeks.
I think a lot of the decision is based on which one the DR prefers to do. My DR at first talked about doing a LAVH (with leaving one ovary) and then when we actually scheduled it she said she was doing a LSH (and removing both ovaries). I don't know if the ovaries had anything to do with the change but I wouldn't think so. I am glad I had the LSH as I liked the idea that she didn't have to do anything with the vagina and I got to keep my cervix. So I had no issues there as far as waiting to heal.
I also have had 2 c-sections and it was not a problem for my LSH.
I would talk to your DR and let her know that you are interested in the LSH. Maybe she does not do the LSH.
Good luck with making the decision that is right for you.
