My 1st Question Of Many

Hi Brenda,

Welcome to hystersisters!! I wanted to let you know that i had a TVH and i am so glad that i did. I had an enlarged uterus that was also tilted back, a couple of fibroids and a host of cysts on my cervix. Having a TVH isn't quite a piece of cake but the recovery does seem to be a little easier or i should say that it was for me. I had very little pain and no gas after surgery. That said , i should also tell you that you DO have the same restrictions that you would have with a TAH. No lifting, no baths, no bending, no vacuuming and all the other things that are NO, NO's. It still has a 6 wk recovery period for initial healing and up to a full year for complete recovery.

I had heard the horror stories too and was hesitant to let my dr do it that way but he said that he preferred doing a TVH over a TAH and in his words i was a poster child for a TVH. There are a lot of deciding factors in having a TVH....how large your uterus is, how big the fibroids are , having children and several others that i can't remember right now. You could ask your dr if he has performed many TVH's and maybe even have you talk to someone (with their permission) that has had that surgery or maybe you could call the hospital and talk to a nurse on the floor.

The biggest problem with having a TVH for me was that i felt pretty good and did things that i shouldn't have been doing ie: cleaning house, laundry (not carrying the baskets but loading the washer), sitting for long periods and not getting the rest that i should have. I had the on me several times. From me not getting the rest i needed it has taken me a full year to get rid of the swelly belly and the exhaustion. If you do decide to go with the TVH, PLEASE,PLEASE follow your dr's orders and rest and don't do anything to prolong your recovery. Other than that, i feel 100% better and am sorry that i waited 5 yrs to have this surgery.

I hope that i have been some help and not confused you even more, i still suffer from terminal brain fog and confuse myself at times. hehe. If you want you can PM me and i can try to answer any questions that you have. Best of luck!!

Love & Hugs,
Eileen

one other thing

My dr. did a procedure in the office the week before my surgery to see if I was a candidate for a TVH. He said that I was and unless something unexpected came up during surgery, that we would go that route. So even if you plan on having a TVH and the dr. thinks that it is necessary during surgery, they can still go the TAH at that time. I signed consent forms saying that i was having a TVH with possible TAH. Just one more thing to think about.

Good luck with your decision!

hi there

I too wanted a TVH but found out last week that i was not able to have that done because my usterus was up too high, DR told me that it could cause more trouble if i went that way, so i opted for a TAH.
thinking of you all
