TRM, no-one knows your child better than you do. All I can say is speak from the heart. My 4 yr old knows that mummys tummy is always poorly. So my dh and I went for the 'Oh frabjous joy! Mummy is going to the hospital where the lovely drs can make mummys tummy better for ever!' kind of approach I'm not saying we threw a tickertape parade, but we stressed the positive end results rather than anything else. I've also made a list out for him on things he would like to do to help while mummy is sore. He chose them, I wrote it down. Eg Tidy toys, put litter in bin. It seems to have settled him and he feels like a big boy who will play a part in mummys recovery. Mind you....if it actually happens (thinks of the toys waiting to be tidied)...I WILL throw a tickertape parade! He did say he was worried about me when he couldn't sleep last night, but I told him that as long as he was there, I would be fine. Within 30 secs he was snoring! Take care, we're thinking of you.
