Ibuprophen/Acetaminophen

I've been taking 2 to 4 Ibus or Acetaminophen daily for headaches. I just read on the site that you shouldn't take Ibus for a week before surgery because of possible problems with blood clotting. My pre-op is Monday and surgery Tuesday....do you think this is going to be a problem for me? My dr never said anything to me about my daily "drugs" and my instuctions don't say anthing about it either...........something else to worry about!!!

Some docs do not like you to be on the ibuprofen or motrin right before surgery, so what i would do is call the office monday and ask..generally stopping a few days before is fine.

Thanks, marian. I'll be sure not to take any tomorrow. My pre-op is Monday at 8:30 a.m. If i caused my surgery to be postponed, I don't know what I'll do!!!!

Ibuprophen/Acetaminophen

Hi there....

My doc told me didn't want me taking ibuprofen or asprin for an entire month prior to surgery. He did say that acetaminophen (Tylenol) was fine as it didn't have the same blood thinning effects as the ibuprofen does. I'm sure you'll be fine and they won't have to postpone.....

If it helps you any :-)....I was told to stop taking my daily aspirin (81 mg/low dose for heart reasons)....5 DAYS before surgery, so a few days is usually enough I guess :-)

I'm just thinking that maybe if it's a sinus headache you could find a tylenol product with some decongestant or whatever in it that might relieve your headaches?

I know Tylenol does squat for me in terms of pain relief, I love Motrin for pain relief and was thrilled to be put on Vicoprofin (Vicodin plus Ibuprofen) for home pain relief post op. Works great. I take one of those and then rather take more 6 hours later, take regular Motrin and I'm pretty much comfortable. But Motrin's always been a wonder drug for my system for some reason.

Anyway, like the other sisters recommended call the doc Monday, but don't get too anxious ...the waiting makes you anxious enough, this is something that will be ok!

Peace,
Nancy
