room phone/tv while in hospital...ya or nay?
I want these, but am wondering if they are worth getting. Surgery is on a Tues. Doc says I will probably go home by Friday.
I think for me the phone is a must as my surgery will take place in a city that is away from my DH, DS, and other family members. I am not much of a TV watcher, thinking I can head to the patient lounge if I get desperate.

room phone/tv while in hospital...ya or nay?
The hopital I'm having surgery at has t.v's in all the rooms. I f you go the semi private way the you have to share. But I am going to a private room(thank goodness) And i find that I like the background noise even at home if I'm up cleaning etc. I wonder if you would feel like going to a common room to watch set if you wanted to? If you really dont want the tv then maybe bring some books or magazines even catalogs to pass time.

I didn't know there were any options! I thought all the rooms were equipped with TVs and phones! Well, if they weren't, I would have asked for both. Even though I only stayed one night, I spent a lot of time awake since I had been asleep all day. I watched a lot of TV while I was there. And, you will be pretty sore regardless of the type of hyst you are having, and will not want to spend a lot of time sitting straight up in a chair. I would say go for both honey, if for no other reason than it's a connection to the outside world. Good luck, and I hope this helps!

I am in Alberta Canada, and these are option you pay for. A phone is $10 for one week, TV is $8 for hook-up & first day and $7 a day after that. Phone for sure, TV for second and third day(I am sure the first day will be a write-off), cost $25.
I am sure hoping for a private room, it is covered through hubby's coverage, but often these rooms are not available as there are very few of them. I just dread the idea of being in a room with 3 others, forgive me ladies, no offense, but I would rather be alone.
Keeping my fingers crossed!

I agree, I would of been horrified if I had to share a room. I never discussed options with any one. Guess I got lucky. They put me in my own room. One bed and a long padded bench. I had a TV but never turned it on. We don't watch TV. But I did appreciate the phone. My DH never left the hospital the four days I was there. He slept on the bench and ate in the cafeteria. He couldn't have done that if I had had a room mate. I told him he didn't need to, that I'd be just fine. He insisted on it. And I had to admit it was comforting having him there.

i suggest that you get the TV turned on. if you can't sleep or are in pain it's a mindless diversion.
