Ok, what does this mean?????

I went for my transvaginal ultrasound yesterday. She asked "what are we looking for?" I explained the Dr thought my endo was "back with a vengence" and he strongly suspects that I have adeno as well. She said, "well, he knows we can't see that on ultrasound, I guess he just wants to know how everything looks."

After the ultrasound, she said she saw one fibiroid and the endometrium looks fine.

The endometrium looks fine???????????? I thought you couldn't see that with ultrasound.

Now I'm worried they are going to say everything is fine and I don't need the surgery. I can't keep going with this pain. I had surgery in 1999 to remove a cyst and they found a tumor (benign), endo, PCOS and adhensions. Cleaned it all up and went on Luuporn. Everything was ok for awhile and then started back and I had one of my ovaries removed. Now it's starting all over again. The Dr said the othe day that any thing besides a hyst and it would just keep coming back every 2 years and getting worse. So, what does this "the endometruim looks fine" mean?????

Ok, what does this mean?????

Hi tiftqtepie and HUGS!!

Take a deep breath!

I had a transvaginal ultrasound and all looked okay. My ultrasound did not show anything that was actually causing my pain. But, when the dr actually got in there during a laparoscopy and took a look around, there was a cyst, some adhesions and other stuff going on. Ultrasounds most definitely do not show everything that is going on. My dr said the endo usually did not show up either. He just wanted the ultrasound done just in case something did show up.

So, just because the ultrasound didn't show anything, that doesn't mean they will cancel surgery. You might call your doctor just to talk to them to see how they will handle things.

You are in pain and miserable, believe me I understand! Hang in there and know you aren't alone!

Ok, what does this mean?????

I know it's frustrating, but many surgeons like to have an ultrasound before proceeding. It's good he knows now that the fibroid is there, just in case he needs to approach your surgery in a particular way because of its position or size.

Don't worry about the determination by the tech that your ednometrium looks fine. Basically she was saying that there was nothing showing up there (there could be other things that can show up, other kinds of masses and sometimes polyps can be seen).

If you have endometriosis, any determination about your uterine lining is kind of irrelevant.

Some insurance companies request ultrasounds as a matter of policy.

Call your doctor to talk, even if you're not scheduled for an appointment yet.

When I had my ultrasound, it was all interpreted by a radiologist and the information was given to my doctor for HER to tell me.

Take care.

Ok, what does this mean?????

The endometrium is the lining of your uterus. She was probably referring to it's thickness. EndometiOSIS though, can't usually be seen on ultrasound so it's okay not to see anything.

I agree with Marianne, take a deep breath. If he's expecting adenomyosis, the only definitive way to diagnose that is from the actual pathology from the hyst.
(Some of my "fibroids" turned out to be adenomyosis - Ultrasound can't differentiate very well on some things, it just helps give a heads up for any big findings)

Good luck with your surgery.

Ok, what does this mean?????

I too, had several ultrasounds before my surgery, and I also had a CT Scan of my abdomen and pelvis. Neither of which actually showed what I was diagnosed with during surgery. All either of these tests showed was that I had "complex cyst" on my right ovary. When I went for a post-op visit on Mon. My doctor told me that I had endometiosis and PCOS. Like sistabeth said, they can measure your endometium (the lining of your uterus) but they cant see endometriosis on an ultrasound. Best wishes!!!!

Ok, what does this mean?????

Thanks yall!! Man, I love this place! So many wonderful, kind people willing to share the experiences and knowledge! Yall rock!

I'm supposed to call the Dr tomorrow for the results. So, I'll see what he says. Plus he ordered a ton of blood tests, fasting blood sugar and insulin, hirsutism profile and thryroid. I know all those things relate to the PCOS, The doc that diagnosed that never did those tests. Grrrr.

I do feel much better now that yall have explained things to me and told me your experiences.

I guess finally being this close, I'm scared something will happen to make it go away. Not that I create things to worry about, not me, nu uh, no way......where have the cats gotten to? What are they doing? Oh no! LOL

Ok, what does this mean?????

I second that MarianneS! You can't go by the ultra sound. 12 years ago I complained of heavy painful periods, bloating/constipation. My GYN had an ultra sound done which showed nothing...not even a fibroid. They decided to take a look via laparcopy and found adhesions attached to my ovaries, tubes, bladder, kidney and intestines. After cleaning me up I felt 100% better for at least 2 years. Then I began to experience gradually the same symptons but put off having it revisited. Finally the past year my cramps/bleeding/chronic constipation and now enemic has really taken a toll. My doctor did a sonogram and now it shows intramural fibroids with a 3 1/2 mo. size uterus. I'm scheduled for a SAH on 9/23. I'm still afraid the adhesions have also returned and have alerted my doctor of the surgery I had 12 years ago since this is a different GYN.

All in all, don't let them ignore your problem just because the ultra sound was clear.

Take care. :-)

Ok, what does this mean?????

I had several ultrasounds before my doctor saw adenomyosis during one of them. I'd had an ablation six months before, so maybe that made a difference. He showed me on screen and explained that most of the time it was impossible to see adeno on an ultrasound. (If you want to know, it looks a little like a field of tiny volcanos.)

During my other ultrasounds I was told I had an ovarian cyst (possibly true, but must have been temporary), and that everything else looked great except that my uterus was larger than normal.
