Countdown and getting scared!!!
Ok......surgery is 6/4 - TAH/BSO and I'm getting scared. I had a c-section 16 years ago and kind of remember the pain, but........
So - be honest with me - how long will it take for me to feel better? Some people tell me I will have to have someone staying with me when I get home. Hubby works and teen daughters will still be in school. Will I need someone here?
I've also heard different things about going back to work. I work in a busy medical office so I'm on my feet at least 7 out of 8 hours a day. Some say I'll be back in 6 weeks, others tell me 8 weeks.
Would love to hear about HRT......
I think I've gotten too many opinions. Would love to hear from the experts!!!!

Countdown and getting scared!!!
Hi Jewl...
I'm no expert, but I had my TAH/BSO 12 weeks ago. It was nowhere as bad as I expected, pain-wise. My discomfort never went above a 2 on a scale of 1-10, once the initial pain in the recovery room was handled (and that was maybe a 6...) I was surprised at how little "pain" I had. Discomfort moving around, sure, and soreness and tenderness, but never really "pain". Each person is different, but I think most ladies will agree that pain management is very important these days...quite different from when you had your c-section.
You will want someone with you the first few days home from the hospital...after that, as long as you don't have to deal with stairs more than a couple of times a day, you should be ok. Maybe they can leave you some lunch and snacks, have the remote handy, and some drinks accessible, and you should be fine until they all come home. You'll probably feel better having peace and quiet!! The fatigue may last awhile...but you'll probably feel much better than you do now!
I'd plan on at least 6 weeks. I thought to go back at 6 weeks, and decided I needed the full 8...went back half days the 8th week and was dragging myself home!!!
Take your time and don't rush your recovery...we get one chance to heal!
You can discuss HRT with your doctor, again, each of us is different. I started Premarin .625mgs the fifth day after surgery and so far it's been fine (knocking on wood). I feel great...better than in years.
Hang in there....this is the worst part. We'll get you through it!!
s
