Can I keep my ovaries if I have no tubes?

Dear friends:

I had my tubes removed 8 years ago. They were blocked, so we decided that removing them would improve the chances of a successful IVF. At this point I have been through so much with a large fibroid and anemia that my GYN suggested a supracervical hysterectomy. I am very committed to keeping my ovaries because there is no reason to take them out. She's a new doctor for me. I have met with her once and I really like her. She's one of the younger "superstar" surgeons who trains other doctors to use the robot. She has all my medical records, so I assume she realizes that my tubes are already gone. But last night I woke up with a horrified thought: if the tubes are already out, and then the uterus gets taken out...what will the ovaries be attached to? Can they stay--with no uterus and no tubes? Does anyone know this? I am now scared that my doc overlooked the fact that the tubes were gone when she promised that the ovaries could stay. Am I missing something? Thank you in advance for your kind replies.

Yes you can definitely keep your ovaries without your Fallopian tubes. My doctor removed one of my tubes with my uterus and cervix. The other tube he couldn't reach. He told me removing tubes can reduce the chances of GYN cancer.

The ovaries should be fine without the tubes as they nestle in a sort of hollow (the ovarian fossa).

As the other sisters have said, just because you have no tubes, doesn't mean you cannot keep your ovaries. This article Ovaries - What are they attached to? can help explain in more detail.
