Last minute change in doctor

Hello,
I will try and keep it short. My TVH is scheduled for tomorrow. My regular GYN cannot perform the surgery (he thought he could, thought maybe he couldn't, thought he could - nope, can't do it), so a different doc will perform the surgery. I met her today for a pre-op. I am fine with it - she usually performs hysterectomies with my regular doctor.

Now I am sitting on my couch, worried about my decision to stay the course. Mostly because the doc doing the surgery asked if I wanted to put it off a few weeks until my regular doc was available. I was told by the nursing staff a few weeks ago, that to reschedule would put me in July for surgery. I have all the stars aligned with work, husband's time off, care for my children, etc. All but my regular doc, so I don't see a reason to put it off. The doctor I met with seemed capable/knowledgeable and had a nice bedside manner.

I guess I'm just looking for support from anybody out there that had a last minute change in doctor. Thanks!

Re: Last minute change in doctor

Hello! When I found out I needed a hyterectomy I didn't even have a gyn, only a GP. So I was referred to one. I met her and liked her but was told she couldn't do the surgery due to the cancer so I was referred to a Gyn/Oncologist who I met once for a consult and exam before he did my surgery. I felt very comfortable with him and since he was the only doctor who could do this surgery in 4 states, I really had no choice. You should be just fine with the new doc. Good luck!

Re: Last minute change in doctor

I didn't switch, but had only seen my GYN once before. So I don't think you need to know the GYN well to have it work out OK. Sounds like things should go fine for you. Best wishes for an easy surgery today and an easy recovery.
