One week post-op with concerns about constipation and Premarin

Hi KY Ladies,

I am four days home from the hospital after having LAVH BOS. It all seemed to go well until my nurse told me they think I have a "bleeder" due to the fact that my hemocrits (?) were at a "6" when they should be an "11-13". So, after a blood transfusion and two extra days filled with nausea and headaches I got to come home. I am not in as much pain as I am nauseated. It is so debilatating. I have started taking premarin and wonder if it could be from that? Anyone else feel the same from premarin? I am in Lexington and was really hoping to go somewhere for spring break (a lakehouse in NC) with the kids on Monday. It doesn't look too promising feeling the way I do. Also, my constipation is driving me crazy. ---- UGH, when is this going to lighten up?

Welcome NClakelover!

My surgery and HRT option (none at the moment) are different than yours but I would advise against going anywhere, especially if you had bleeding of some sort. I would give yourself at least 2-3 wks from surgery date.

Give your body time to heal and YES its quite boring and dull to do nothing, but that is what your body needs. In the olden days, that time would have been spent in the hospital!

I'll check back later tonight or this weekend. I am 11, almost 12 weeks post op myself and glad I spent a full 6 weeks off. I am just now getting on the treadmill (coach potato pre-op) and I am taking things really slow. I have been back to work since 2/18. (6 wk mark)

Hi NClakelover -

I am not too far from you - Buckner,KY. We actually moved from Lexington about 7 years ago.

Like Kim said, you need to take it easy. I wouldn't try to go one that spring break trip - you will be risking too much.

Not sure about premarin. I am not on any type of medicines to help out.

Just make sure you take your time healing and let people help you out!

I also had a suspected slow bleed after surgery and had to receive 2 units of blood the day after my surgery. I had terrible headaches and nausea and throwing up while in the hospital. The nausea went away by around day 5, but I continue to have headaches.
Oh, and I took the advise of ladies on this board and ate prunes. They worked within 2 hours for me!
Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!

The Vicodin I took made my very constipated, and I did the prunes, prune juice, lots of water, walking, etc. The doctor had prescribed a stool softener, which I took from the first day after surgery.

When I was 5 days out and feeling very bloated, I switched to a stool softener with a laxative for a couple of days. That got things started. However, I did not check with my doctor before doing that and I probably should have . . .

I would love to be traveling insted of sitting on the futon but I agree with the others that staying home right now is better for you.
