My 1 and only was at 5 weeks, 2 days. Would have been 7 weeks as my gyn/onc was on vacation week 6 when I was supposed to go, but I had to change it to earlier because I needed my paperwork to go back to work at 6 weeks. Everything was fine.

Re: what's involved in post op exams?

I've had two internal exams, one at 3 weeks and one the other day at 6.. The exams whereby painful, just kinda uncomfortable. She used the speculum on both and took swabs during my first exam.

Re: what's involved in post op exams?

I had an internal exam at 2 wks. and 6 wks. Neither exam was what I would call painful. It was a little uncomfortable at 2 wks. maybe because I was a bit tense, not really knowing what to expect. At 6 wks. felt no discomfort whatsoever.

Re: what's involved in post op exams?

At my 1 week exam, they only looked at my incision and went over instructions. I have another exam at 6 weeks, so I'm hoping they look around on the inside then.

Re: what's involved in post op exams?

I had a very brief (and slightly uncomfortable) internal exam at 1 week. He also removed my stitches. I don't go back for another 3 weeks (2 weeks from now).

Re: what's involved in post op exams?

I thought waiting almost 5 weeks for a checkup was long, but 6weeks? I'm doing ok, thank goodness, but since I only saw my surgeons PA AFTER surgery, and being sent home 36 hours from the start of surgery I'm feeling like I'm just a number. I've called the office twice and talked to the nurse both times. once i asked if they made a mistake on the date for post op appt. guess the dr is too busy, why do some dr make you feel so unimportant ! Thank goodness I found this website that answered most of my questions!!!

Re: what's involved in post op exams?

During my 2 week post op exam my doctor wasn't going to check internally until he heard I was still bleeding. He then, gently, did and internal look and used his finger to check the cuff. Very uncomfortable but didn't wind up hurting enough to kick him! :-) Try your best to relax and let the doctor know you are scared of it hurting, she/he should be gentle already but it might make the experience less stressful to voice your concern.

Re: what's involved in post op exams?

appt with surgeon at 1, 3 and 5 weeks. Checked incision, answered questions, and told me what my restrictions were. No internal exam, but then again, I kept my cervix so nothing to check there, I suppose! Palpated abdomen at 5 week appt and reviewed labs.

I had my TAH 3rd may, over four months later I have yet to have one. I was discharged back to the gp and told to have a smear in 6 months. I haven't got a cervix.
