Hysteroscopy & D and C

OK, Sisters, what do you think?
I liked my second opinion M.D. and he recommends the above 2 procedures to see the fibroids and take a sample of the endometrium. My largest fibroid is only golf ball size, but is causing
quite a bit of pain and heavy bleeding, so this will hopefully rule out anything else that is going on.

Has anyone else had this done on the road too having a hyst?

Hi Speakeasy,
I'm glad you like the second doctor and I hope the hysteroscopy and D&C will bring you relief. I'm assuming your fibroids are submucosal ... on the inside lining of the uterus, otherwise your gyn would not be able to sample them or remove them.

If this works and you are able to avoid further treatment at this time, that would be great. Sending positive energy and hugs your way! Keep us posted on how this goes.

Hysteroscopy & D and C

Dear Sister,
I too had fibroids. I went for a regular "female" physical in January and was told that something didn't feel "right". I had an ultrasound 5 days later, where they did indeed find fibroids. My smallest one was the size of a golfball and largest one was the size of a very large cantalope. My MD suggested (said there wasn't really any other choice) that I have diagnostic surgery.
On February 20 I went in for outpatient laparoscopy, hysteroscopy (and a D&C which had not been planned). I went back to work that following Monday, but would have waited 1 more day in hind sight. I had a follow-up appointment 2 weeks later when I saw the pictures from that diagnostic surgery. UGLY!
WOW! My MD then looked and me and said, "you know what I am going to say, don't you?" I did and I had my TAH on 4/2 and am now at home recovering.
I do think that having the diagnostic surgery like your MD is suggesting was a good idea, because I knew for sure that I needed to have the TAH in the end.
I had never had surgery before or been in a hospital before and I was scared both times. Be diligent, stay informed, ask God for guidance and you will do well.
God be with you as you make your decision. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.

One of your many sisters,
Anniemae

thanks

Beth and AnnieMae, Thanks for your comments. I hope the fibroids are submucosal...the ultrasound was inconclusive. This doc says he would do a frozen sample or the scope prior to a hyst anyway. A previous MD had difficulty with taking a sample in the office, so this seemed like a logical next step.I am still keeping my options open re: if a hyst is needed and what type.
My uterus is 10 to 12 week size. AnnieMae how many days rest afterwards was best for you? speakeasy

Hysteroscopy & D and C

I had a D and C hysteroscopy for fibroids in March. The procedure was painless, they gave me Versed so I don't remember any of it. the worst part of the whole thing was just having the IV put in. No pain afterwards, no cramping, nothing. I would definitely go for it.

Hysteroscopy & D and C

Dear Speakeasy,
I had my diagnostic procedures done mid-day on a Thursday and returned to work on Monday. I would have waited to go back to work (in hindsight) until Tuesday.

Hysteroscopy & D and C

I went for my annual pap and exam and dr. said he felt something that might be a fibroid. Went for a sonogram 4 weeks later and was told my uterus was enlarged to about 12 weeks. He would have to do a hysteroscopy, D&C and a lap for biopsies. I had this done on 4/17.

My dr. found advanced endo and a benign tumor growing outside of my enlarged (12 weeks) uterus. The tumor (walnut size) is trying grow into my uterus. The pics are GROSS, but I'm glad that he was able to pinpoint the problem and cause of my pain...that it wasn't all in my head!

I too, went in for the procedures on a Thurs AM and came back to work Monday 4/21. I should have waited until Tuesday!! You should think about taking the extra day, you won't feel so tired.

My ovaries looked great but because of the endo and tumor size he recommended me for a partial hyster within the next 6 months. To be continued..........

hysteroscopy and d n c

It is worth a try, however, 1 1/2 year ago I had a hysteroscopy and dnc for 2 small fibroids causing the same problem. I am now
3 weeks post op for abdominal hyst. About 14 months after the
first procedure I started experience same symptoms of heavy, heavy, bleeding with clots and cramps. shooting pains in bdomen and not so comfortable sex. Within the 1 1/2 year time span 2 new fibroids had formed. One had attached to an old c section scar and my bladder the other was pushing on the uterine wall. Don't mean to burst your bubble, just wanted to give you my experience. The hyst and dnc did help greatly for over a year. It was definately worth it to me. Not a hard procedure. A couple of days to recover. It may work for you and if it doesn't at least it will dely having major surgery.

Hysteroscopy & D and C

I had hysteroscopy and D&C, along with polypectomy in January. It was my first real medical procedure of any kind (I had all four wisdom teeth out a few years ago - that was my biggest thing before this) and I was scared to death. Let me tell you, it was NOTHING! I had Versed and perhaps some other "happy drugs" and don't know a thing about the procedure. No pain, no cramps, very light bleeding for a few hours. I could have gone back to work the next day easily.
Unfortunately, fibroid reared its ugly head again and I am now scheduled for a TAH on May 15. Talk about scared now....

Hysteroscopy and D&C

I had this procedure last February and although it didn't solve my problems and I had to have the hyster 8 months later in October I'm very glad I had the initial procedure as I'm only 31 and occasionally feel sad that I'm not able to have any more children - it makes me feel better knowing that I tried other options and had no other options.
