post surgery nausea

I have the usual post surgery digestive issues-constipation and gas- but this morning had pretty bad nausea. Was really afraid I might throw up! at 6 days post TAH, this was really scary. I got up, walked around a lot, took two Tums, and feel better now. Anyone have this problem? Any suggestions?

Re: post surgery nausea

hugs I've been feeling the same way the last 2 days but I did have trouble with my surgery, I was thinking about calling the doc but I just came home last night from the hospi. so I didn't want to bother them yet.

I had the same issue. Just call your doc and he can prescribe something. Mine gave me suppositories. It only lasted a couple of days for me, and the suppositories did the trick right away!

Re: post surgery nausea

Might need to get yourself pooping. If things are slowing up or stopping up, you'll get more nausea. Tums helps with antacid but the calcium can actually stop you up more. Might steer away from that and more towards something to get your bowels moving today.

Re: post surgery nausea

I couldn't hold anything down for the first few days after surgery. For me, I think it was the anesthesia, although it didn't hit me until the ride home from the hospital the day after the surgery.

Try keeping on clear liquids - chicken broth, herbal tea, ginger ale (maybe cut it with something to ease up on the bubbles). That should also help flush out your system and help ease the constipation.
