My pre-op (for 3/7 castle visit) was today.

Hello Ladies,
I have gotten so much useful information from reading the posts I thought I'd share my pre-op appointment.

My Doc did not do a pelvic exam, I think she already knows what is going on They are taking the cervix, I wasn't sure. They told me NO fingernail polish or makeup. I can have a CD player and bring extra pillows if I want comfort.

My DH went, he asked if they would prescribe a tranquilizer to calm my rattled nerves (yes....I am nervous AND I have a needle phobia) so she wrote a rx for valium. I asked for the pain rx now, so I would have it home, she wrote an rx for percocet and one for motrin 800. She did not tell me to discontinue motrin prior to surgery.

I have to give myself an enema the night before THAT is not a pleasant thought. My bowels are already responding from nerves

I had to sign and they took blood, then said.."See ya' next week".

No EKG, maybe at the hospital? I am 46 so I expected it. I have to be at the hospital at 7:00 AM for 9:00 AM surgery. I have big time jitters but I really am so glad this is going to happen!

I can't think of anything else offhand....that was an easy visit for me except the venipuncture....but DH held my hand. He is being wonderful and has already planned meals so I can just be a true Princess when this is over.

Counting the days....
Bev

Pre op

Well congrats on getting that over and done with..You'll get thru fine..the waiting is truely the hardest part. I got an EKG and chest xray at the hospital the week before my surgery and she told me that is only becuz i have high blood pressure and they check to make sure my heart is not swollen etc..but she said normally they don't even do those things on healthy peeps before surgery anymore..I too am terrified of needles exp the IV..so before they stuck me they gave me verced to calm me down and then also they numbed my hand before doing the IV..I have small veins to start with andt hen they could not find a vein at all and ended up having to put warm towels on me to get them to swell up and then they used a baby IV..but u know it is the first Iv I have had that I didn't feel and it was cuz they numbed it up first...ask for that if you are afraid..good luck..It really is easy on the other side

I don't think an EKG is routine if your heart sounds normal under the stethoscope. Good luck; you'll be fine!

Thanks!

cwbysLdi: My veins do the same as yours....they disappear! I end up bruised with several needle marks..."let's try another place.."

Wachusett: I hope this means I am healthy otherwise!! Nervous but healthy

Babsmv! Good luck with your day too!! I'll be thinking of my surgery sisters and knowing you are there too does, in an odd sense, make me feel MUCH better!

's to all of you,
Bev
