Dietary and supplement changes

Hi, Can anyone direct me to where in HS I can learn more about dietary and supplement changes Pre-Op. I'm having a TAH on Mar. 12th leaving behind rt ovary with repair to rectocele and possibly bowel resection to remove endo from bowel. My doc has told me to take 300mg iron from now until surgery..I'm doing it but iron has always constipated me...and I'm prone to constipation..now it's just worse. I'm taking a stool softner also but it's not helping much. I'm really willing to do what it takes to get in better shape before surgery...any help or suggestions would be kindly appreciated.
Thanks all and take care.
Trish

Dietary and supplement changes

Hi Trish

You might find some good information in the Hysteritaville forum: https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/for...s=&forumid=112

In there I saw thread headers talking about eating healthier and supplements so I hope you can find what you're looking for.

Best wishes,

Iron

Hey Trish!!
I can relate to your problem with iron and constipation....I was anemic before my TVH and tried to take Slow Fe....supposed to be easier on the constipation problems....Not for me.....Try taking Vitamin C with the iron...it helps with the absorption of the iron....but call and ask the doctor first before you take anything....My internist actually told me to stop the Slow Fe and I took a great prenatal vitamin that had lots of iron....once the excessive bleeding stopped with taking birth control pills every day til surgery, my anemia was better before surgery......
Give your DR a call about the Vitamin C....whatever your body doesn't absorb, you will pee out anyway...Good luck!!! See you on the other side with the rest of us ...
